The guy buying it actually qualified with an M1 in the service, so he should know, but he almost bought 7.62x39 ammo ...
Thanks

There is a BIG difference between an M1 (Garand) and an M1 (Carbine) a very big difference.

All M1 Carbines, whether USGI or aftermarket, use .30 Carbine ammo. Pretty inexpensive stuff compared to other rifle ammo. I shoot Prvi Partisan in mine (available at Cabela's for about $17.99/50 when on sale, or from other places on the web for about the same). if it's an Iver Johnson, it will say so plainly above the breech. Same for Plainfield. Doesn't really matter, as Iver Johnson acquired Plainfield's building, assets, carbine tooling, and inventory in 1978. Neither are USGI carbines. Don't try to shoot M1 Garand ammo out of an M1 Carbine, or vice versa. BIG difference in guns!

I knew some of Y'all would know.
He got it in a group of guns, one pistol over 100 years old ... he buys stuff, then asks me what he bought
3 of us guys hang out together a lot, the third has an awesome 1911 collection, probably hundreds of them.
I sold most of what I had collected over years of collecting, also cleaning and thinking about shredding my old tax forms dating back to the 1960s
Yeah I saw on Plainfield's site the marking above the breech
however his says US M1
no name
but it's in that paratrooper stock, great unscratched wood, dusty, stored barrel up for years and years
He got it and 2 other guns for $600 last week and already got offered $600 on the M1 carbine but wanted to shoot it to decide to keep or sell or hang on for more money.

I would give him $50.00 for the no name Carbine.

Back in the 60s & 70s there were many carbines converted to other, usually wildcat, cartridges. I had one that shot a necked down .45ACP to .357, but wasn't satisfied with it for ANY kind of hunting, so I sold it to a friend. Last I knew it had been sold about five times - too much for woodchucks, not enough for deer.
