An ATF official is rethinking a training exercise to detonate explosives that sparked a wildfire in northwestern Motley County on Tuesday.
"In hindsight, we should have," Jim Luera, resident agent in charge for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Lubbock, said in response to whether his agency should have delayed the exercise conducted while much of the region is under a burn ban due to wildfire-ripe conditions.

"There's a burn ban on and red flag warning and they're out there blowing stuff up," said Coy Franks, who leases pasture land in the area.
Franks was eating lunch at his home east of Flomot shortly after noon when he heard an explosion.

"The house shook like a sonic boom," he said. "Everything in the house rattled."

Franks said he and his wife hustled outside to investigate when "another one went off.

"You could see these big mushroom dirt clouds," he said.

The explosions were the result of the ATF's training exercise.
More brilliance from BATF&E....

I'm wondering what they are training to DO!

Is there a faith-based nursery school on their hit list?

I'd look to see if Janet Reno was nearby, might explain a lot of it. ;-)

I learned a long time ago that just because someone is in a position of authority doesn't make them immune to stupidity.

Back at Dietz' gun range in New Braunfels several years ago, there was a multiple county police training session being held as a courtesy to the state. There were some out-of-town sheriffs deputies horse playin' on the 300yds+ "LE Only" area. This was after the training session was over and most officers had left.

They decided it would be funny to light smoke bombs and throw them in the dry woods. :banghead: The burning smoke bombs caught fire on the piles of dead grass which was supposedly put out by the same officers pretty quickly.

One of the range officers (guy about 20 yrs old) drove up to the area in the range truck when he saw the smoke and yelled at them after finding out what had caused it. This incident could have been MUCH worse had the fire spread uncontrollably. The range officer quickly drove back, picked up the phone and called Comal County Sheriffs (who is about a mile away). He requested a deputy because they threatened him with arrest when he told them to leave. :mad5

We stood and watched them drive out of the range seconds after the phone call was made. When Comal Deputies arrived, one of them basically repeated the first line of my post. "rlol"

Yeah, clocks stopping, trains taking dirt roads. All good clues. "rlol"

I don't know if there is a Mr. Reno, but if there is....I bet he takes her to work with him each day...just so he won't have to kiss her goodbye. ;-)

O.K., so the woman can't help how she looks, its her past record thats really ugly,
