New to Texas, question on carrying a handgun

I have an FFL and will be making a handgun purchase soon and have it sent to my house. Everything I see about Texas is CHL this and that. What about if you don't want a CHL what is Texas rules on open carry? In Arizona you could carry as long as you had three points of visibility, full magazine, and a round in the chamber. Does something like this not apply in Texas? I plan to get a CHL but it will be after I recieve my pistol, and I don't feel like going to jail for a stupid mistake.

Welcome to Texas and the Forum!
NO open carry here.
You can carry lawful in your vehicle if:
(1) in a private motor vehicle;
(2) not otherwise engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic;
(3) not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm;
(4) not a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01; and
(5) not carrying a handgun in plain view.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I will be signing up for a CHL class quickly then, or do you recommend just doing it online?

My renewals have been online. I can't speak for a new CHL, but would think it would speed up the process.
Later today those with authority will know more.

You can do the application online, but you are also required to attend a 10 hour class.

I'm sorry to veer off topic here but I just have to ask, are you saying you are required to be loaded and have a round chambered to carry openly?
