Looking at the website and Google maps, I wouldn't carry there.

According to Travis County tax records, 1900 University Ave location taxes are paid by AT&T, so it appears to be privately owned. Not sure about any 30.06 posting though.

I show "Board of Regents of the University of Texas", but that doesn't necessarily make it a "school".

Interesting, if you search Real Property you get that (I tried earlier and didn't get a return, so may have had something wrong in the search.) If you search Business Property, you get the two AT&T's and Compass LLC. I think I would be cautious then of carrying there since the real property shows up as Board Of Regents.. :thumbs2:

Business property is equipment, furniture, etc. Real property is land and improvements.

This is correct. I have no additional info about the particular property in question (outside my area of Austin expertise), but if it's owned by UT I'd be cautious.

PC §46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits
an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries
on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the
person is not:
(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's
control;

Is your hotel room premises under your control?

I think so.

Yeah, but you could probably still be prosecuted if it is considered a school under §46.03. We've had this discussion before in regards to a hotel owned by the University of Houston.

You guys would be shocked if you found out how much property the UT system actually owns in the state. If all that property were considered a school, one would be hard pressed to find any place in NW Austin that you could carry. Heck, you would have to drive up 183 practially to Leander before you were on non-UT owned land.

I don't know if the Hotel is owned by UT; it probably is but is leased by ATT which is why they are paying taxes on it. Regardless, if classes arent taught there and the building is not physically attached to a building that does teach classes. and it's not posted, you're good to go.

hirundo82 thanks for the link. Looks like another good reason for campus carry. Don't see how it can be your hotel room if it ain't you home away from home. posting.php?mode=reply&f=7&t=45103#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The prohibition is on "premises" (buildings for the sake of this discussion), not property.

All the statute says is we can't carry on the premises of "schools." Nowhere in the statute is that defined, and I'm not aware of it being limited by court cases to buildings where educational activities occur--common sense would seem to limit it to that, but we're dealing with the law. Until it is better defined what is a "school" for the purposes of §46.03, or campus carry passes, I avoid carrying in all buildings owned by a university.
