Y'all can all stay in Illinois, I'm going to Texas

What a great story ... this guy and his wife finally told Illinois the ugly truth about itself and they're moving to Texas to live with us sane folks.

Mr. Keats, if y'all want to partake of another Texas specialty and practice personal self defense, look me up - I'd be proud to teach y'all a CHL class.

He has his facts straight and is not afraid to tell the truth. Ought to fit in well here.

(In the interests of "full disclosure" I have to admit to originally being from "there" too).

How long before the DOJ finds a reason to investigate his new Texas home? After all, insulting the home of "The One" must be some kind of crime.

It reminds me of that Davy Crockett quote, considering the direction Illinois is heading.

That's what I was going for in the thread title. ;-)

I guess I wasn't the only one thinking Davy Crockett.

I grew up in the Chicago suburbs.

Went to a state university for 2 years.

Left in 1979 and have been back once since.

I've never missed it and it has gone down hill terribly in the last 20 years.

That's too bad because Chicago is (was) a great place (LOL, cuz I just said it's not.) to visit anyway.

The large northern cities seem to think it's a privilege to live there and charge accordingly.

I think the former senator made some good points and I welcome him to Texas!

Even if he is moving to Austin...

I daresay that Austin can use more people that think the way he does :txflag:

Agreed.

Let's chip in for his CHL course.

He needs a clean break from the strangles of his former state (of entrapment).

If enough Texans up and migrated to Chicago, NYC, Boston, Wisconsin or the left coast, etc., could we change their way of thinking and lower the cost of livin' in those jungles?

Just askin'...

I would like to think so.

I still know a few people back in Chi town and they are not ready to make a change.

They live in that world and have no other frame of reference.

That is a tall wall to climb.

I'm staying here.

I find it baffling how many people are unable or unwilling to just pick up and move to a better place.

For example: If I lived in "The Projects" somewhere in NYC, I'd save my spare change in empty coffee cans until I had enough money for gas or a train ticket to rural Virginia or the NC coast, where the cost of housing is less than even a rent-controlled slum.

I certainly understand not wanting to be separated from family and friends, or to be starting your personal life over from scratch. But for the folks that are struggling the most...... Just leave.

It's as if they're suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

My mom lives in a big city "up there". She owns her apartment (condo) free and clear. Maybe it's 600 square feet. Her monthly cost for "maintenance, taxes, parking (she has to rent a spot) and management" is enough to pay the mortgage on a nice house in almost any reasonable middle class suburb. She HATES it there.... Her building is noisy, her neighbors are unbearable, her friends are miserable whiners, etc..... She'll never leave.
