My gf and I are taking a road trip to San Antonio and Austin this weekend. We've both been to the Alamo already and plan to spend some time on the Riverwalk. We're planning on hitting Lulu's for their 3 lb cinnamon roll I've heard about.

Anybody recommend any other good places in SA to check out? We'll also be in Austin for Sunday night. Anybody from the Austin area know a good place to check out live music on Sunday nights?

If you have nothing else to do, there's the zoo and botanical gardens, Ripley's museum downtown. Institute of Teas Cultures. Don't know how many of these places are posted 30.06, though.

She might like the shopping. You won't, but she will...

I'd tell you more, but when we lived up there, we just played it by ear a lot of the time. There's some nice state parks around the area, also.

Live music in general Austin area can be a wide range ... are you looking for anything specific?

For jazz try the Elephant Room downtown on Congress Ave between 3rd and 4th

For quintessential "Austin" style rock/blues/college/country 6th Street and adjoining streets are the place to be

Also Stubb's BarBQ on 5th usually has live music ... also the Continental Club and many other well-known spots

For Texas country there also plenty of good spots ... the Broken Spoke is the big one, Gruene Hall near New Braunfels is a must see and they usually have a cool laid back acoustic show on Sunday afternoons - a little gospel, folk, Americana, and country all melded together

And goes without saying most of these music venues are definitely 51% locations

Just noticed Kevin Fowler is playing Sunday at River Road Icehouse in New Braunfels. He plays a wild honky tock mesh of rock/country. But I'm pointing out his show because anyone who sings a song called "Beer, bait, and ammo" deserves mention on a gun forum

I've seen Kevin Fowler live at least a half dozen times. His show is well worth the price of admission.

Pretty much what austinrealtor said, music is EVERYWHERE, you could probably just drive around downtown with your windows down listening to the music as you go by until you find something you like. I saw Kevin Fowler once, not really my kinda music but he's not bad.

Re: San Antonio -- if you like historic guns, and LOTS of stuffed animals, the Buckhorn Museum is fun. Tickets are pricey, cheaper if you are military in some fashion (active, reserve, veteran, etc).

While you're in Austin, make the short tip to Driftwood and try some of the best BBQ you will ever have in your life. 290 to 1826 or loop 1 to 1826 if you're intrested...

Salt Lick is good, and the Driftwood location easily beats the newer locations in Westlake and Round Rock. But personally I prefer the barbecue in Lockhart - Smitty's, Black's, and Kreuz's ... all personal preference, none of them will leave you unhappy or hungry.

The Salt Lick is highly overrated...there is much better BBQ out there, but it's usually the hole-in-the-wall places. (my opinion of course)

The BBQ Station on 410 and Nacogdoches is really good, and there is actually a small BBQ trailer about 400 yards away (separate businesses) that has some of the best pork I have ever tasted. Their pork sliders with the mustard sauce are tasty! It's in the empty gas station on the SW side of the 410 / Naco intersection.

Kreuz's is my personal favorite, but they don't have any sauce so many folks don't like it. Smitty's is great too. If you want to go to Luling you can try City Market too.

Yep, any of the places in Lockhart are great, as is City Market in Luling. Great, now I'm hungry!
