Before you fire up the grill, go to the lake or work in the yard this coming Monday.
Take just a few minutes out of your day to teach your kids, bow your head, fly
your flag and remember what Memorial day is really about. :patriot: :txflag:

Lots of well-meaning folks forget the real meaning of Memorial Day. Around this time of year I always get a lot of comments from folks at work thanking me for my service on my "day". I always ask, "what day is that?". They respond, Memorial Day!

I remind them that Memorial Day is all about those that have fallen in Service. So it is not about those Veterans that are still alive.

I agree with the OP...on Monday go outside and grill or hoist one for those that made it possible for the rest of us to grill or hoist one.

Since I work at Home Depot these days, Memorial Day is just another day I wind up working, but my wife is going with the VFW to gravesides memorial services. Maybe next year.

I will be wearing my hat at work.

I need to thank you for your service twice, Guns. First, for your Navy service, and second for the recognition Home Depot gives 24/7, not just on Memorial Day, with the 10% discount I use regularly.

I always enjoy seeing your photo, armed for action. Reminds me of many a swim call, with all the GMs on shark watch.

Thanks again, Jim,

Elmo

There's another one of those defective videos that make my screen all fuzzy. :???:

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of my brothers and sisters who served and a special thank you to all of those that paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

I will be starting the drive home to Texas on Memorial Day, so we won't be able to attend any particular events. However, I will be driving along Interstate 40, which is called the "Purple Heart Highway," or something like that. There are small signs every few miles along the road reminding drivers that it is dedicated to the sacrifices made by others so that we can enjoy the freedom to drive across our country. My thoughts will be often of my dad, who although he survived his wounds acquired at Iwo Jima, served faithfully and honorably and is no longer with us today. I get it that this day commemorates those lost in battle, but I see those who survived their wars and then died later as having gone to join their brothers who preceded them in death. I hope they all rest in peace.

I don't actually have the words to express how grateful I am, and how indebted I feel, to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. All I can do is quietly say "thank you" and remember them.

M1 Garands in my day, LoneWolf, and I suspect that our GMs were the only ones who could operate that complicated weapon. At least safely. :biggrinjester:
Your 20 would do a job on a shark, though. :patriot:

ROFL - the diver retrieving a dummy torpedo had just come rocketing up out of the water and declaiming about the size of the shark down there, and the look of concentration on my face is due to attempting to switch hands with my cigarette and load the Garand simultaneously. ;-)
