Is this seat taken?

I just sent my CHL package out via certified mail.
Does anybody know if an expired renewal gets processed any faster than a first-timer license? (Wishful thinking).

Mine has not - but I was out of state for 3 years in the interim.
Mine was expired for a few years prior to this application.
I got the "waiting for background investigation" early this week via email.
10/23 - App rec'd by DPS
11/21 - PIN letter sent by DPS
STILL WAITING

If I got a call like that, I'd have to go into my Roy D. Mercer act:
"It ain't funny."
"I'm fixing to come down there and get sideways with somebody!"
"I'm gonna git a hunk outta you big enough to clog the drain!"
"How big a boy are ya?"

"Y'all got a squarr-off place down thar, where y'all'r at?"
"Just how do I get down thar t'where y'all are?"
"I'm gonna take a hunk outta you big enough to bait a bar trap!"
"By gawd!"
"Roooy Dam Mercer." As in, Hoover Dam. "It ain't a cursin'!."
We've got 4 or 5 R.D. Mercer CDs in the van. Hilarious stuff.

Today is day 50 since the completed expired renewal packet was received in Austin and I haven't even gotten a PIN yet.
What the heck?

Just from the history of posts here, it looks to me as if there was a brief burst in Austin of activity and approvals before Christmas, and ever since it seems as if DPS--or the designated authorities for the local background checks--is chipping through a big backlog with an ice pick. Not much progress. But I thought the holiday clog would have, er, flushed out of the system by now; we're just a week and half from February.
I think the 50-day-and-no-PIN deserves an email.
Hang in there.

After 54 days, a package from DPS showed up in the mail!!

It's a huge envelope for a little piece of plastic, but OK!

It's a form letter saying something was wrong with my TR-100.
The form letter wasn't specific as to what was wrong with it, and they sent back a copy of my TR-100, (with nothing marked wrong on it).
I took the instructor class at DPS in Austin in August 1995 and I let my license expire in 2001. In November 2006 I took the full 8-10 hour class and the proficiency exam, (passed them both), and my instructor told me to check RENEWAL and write EXPIRED RENEWAL on the top of the TR-100. DPS received it December 4, 2006 and they just now let me know there's a problem.
I spoke with a CHL Instructor who thinks I should have checked the NEW LICENSE box instead of the RENEWAL box on the form. Any other instructors have an opinion on that or anything else that could be wrong on the form?
Not much help came in the envelope from DPS and I expect I'll be on the phone for a long time when I call them Monday morning.
Thanks for any help.

Problem clarified by DPS this morning. I should have checked NEW LICENSE box instead of RENEWAL on the TR-100. All I have to do is fix that, initial it, and send it back in...and wait some more.
