Vancouver is safer?

During many debates over "gun control" comparisons have been made between Seattle and Vancouver, supposedly showing how much safer Vancouver is than Seattle, despite only a few miles separation, due to Canada's overwhelmingly atrocious gun laws.
In light of the rioting after the loss of the Stanley Cup finals by Vancouver's hockey team (whatever their name is, I don't care) I wonder if any of those debaters would like to reopen the subject. When was the last time there were riots in Seattle, for any reason?

This the last time I recall (not sure it classifies as a riot):

I believe the last time a championship was lost in Vancouver the result was the same.

Also in 2001 during Madi Gras:

I think all this says is alcohol and large croweds equals trouble, regardless of city.

Ooh and another one from this year even, though it's only 30 people, it still meets the definition of "riot" (and the article uses that word also):

Here is what happens to you when guns are outlawed and you try and stop looting in Vancouver.

The RCMP and other Canadian LEO's have guns. Why didn't they use them?

The statistice breakdown I saw a few years ago showed the crime rates by demographic group is similar between Seattle and Vancouver, with the overall difference coming from different demographics.
