The above link is to the initial stub of a DMN story. The DMN has really got me miffed since I can no longer post links that go to the entire story.
Let me sketch in the details: Dallas attorney Levi McCathern, who hunts extensively ( elk, bison, aoudad, axis deer, white tailed deer, turkeys, ducks),
was hunting in Leon County, Texas (NE of Bryan-College Station).
He used a rifle (brand/model/caliber unspecified) at 100 yards, and was able to hit the gator's walnut-sized kill zone (top of head behind eyes).
The gator was 13 feet, 8 inches, and weighed 880 pounds.
The gator was shot in Leon County, but then was driven over to Crockett's square (Houston County), where it was a source of amazment to bystanders
as it was laid out in the bed of pickup truck.
The gator was shot on private land near the Trinity River. The story was in the 6/19/2011 DMN and has just happened recently. It is one of the 5 or 6
biggest gators killed in Texas since 1984, when modern legal alligator hunting season resumed.

The above link is believed to be the hunter. He is in somewhat the same kind of litigation in which Charles Cotton is involved. They may know one another.

The above link dates back to 10/3/2007 and details another 880 pound gator. This one was taken in Lufkin (Angelina County), which is on US 59 between
the City of Houston and Nacogdoches.
