90 Day Wait?

I called DPS today since my 60 days will be next week. The guy told me that my application had been sent to a technician for review and that it was still too soon to tell me anything. When I explained that I thought there was a 60 day law that they had to have something to me he said that was just for people with no background and that the
normal waiting time is 90 days and that they have up to 180 days to respond ???

I tried to broach the subject of the actual time allowed by statute to issue the license here...
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=45085" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Unfortunately, I did not get much in the way of verifiable answers. Several people responded with what they BELIEVED it to be, but nobody refuted my calcs.
The 180 days number, however, is in the regs.

a very sad time for most... heard horror stories of some waiting upto 6 months.
had two friends - no issues or complications - one got his a full 2 months before the other.... they were father and son so go figure.
Took the class at the same time - turned in the paperwork at the same time and everything.

Back then the background checks could only be done by sworn officers, in Sept 2009 the law changed and expanded to non-sworn officers which reduced the backlog. At least that is how I remember it. My application and bg checks were held up during that time.

I first got my Texas CHL in April 2001, and it was 30 days for me.

The word I got from April's CHL Instructor class was that if all the forms are filled out online, the process can be cut to as low as 6 weeks or less. The only thing that needs to be sent in via snail mail is the picture & holder and the two affidavids. Everything else can be done online.
Food for thought.

Affidavits are done online, too. And they are "electronically notarized" (or whatever), so that is a step the applicant doesn't have to perform.

Call your local Rep. At the end of 60 days I had not recieved mine. I called my Rep and stated that I had a current self defense need, could they do anything to expedite. I really didn't expect anything, but got a call from her office that day saying they had contacted Austin. I then got a call from Austin saying that when they get calls from politicians they are required to put the application on the top of the pile and that I would have it within the week,,,and I did. I didn't even vote for her!

If everyone calls their rep, do they put the applications back in the original order?
