TDL Renewal

Anyone renew their TDL recently and if so, what did it take? From what I understand, you now have to take a SS card or some other proof of having a SS#, plus a copy of your birth certificate. Does anyone know if the birth certificate has to be certified? I have some copies of my birth certificate but I will have to go get them out of the bank box to see if they are certified. Boy, if the lines were long before, they will probably be a real mess now, but I guess it has to be done. There should be no problem carrying in the DPS office (front part), right?

Yep, I renewed the last times online, but this time they may want to check to make sure that I can still see. Also, the way I understand it, if the DPS does not already have on file SS info and proof of citizenship/green card you cannot renew online. I am pretty sure one year when I renewed I gave them my SS card but I am not sure of the birth certificate (before the advent of online renewal). After having a TDL for 55 years or so continuous guess I will have to prove I am a Texan.

If you have not renewed your DL in person within the last 6 years, Texas requires you to provide proof of lawful presense. Here are the docs you can use per the DPS website.

To verify US Citizenship or lawful permanent residence, the applicant must present one of the following:

Certificate of Birth issued by appropriate U.S. State, Territory, or District of Columbia;
Department of State Certification of birth issued to U.S. Citizens born abroad (Form FS-240, DS-1350, or FS-545);
Certificate of U.S. Citizenship (Form N-560, N-561, N-645);
U.S. Dept. of Justice – INS U.S. Citizenship Identification Card (Form I-197)
U.S. Dept. of Justice – INS Identification Card for Resident Citizen of the U.S. (Form I-179)
U.S. Passport
Valid Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551); or
Passport or I-94 stamped "Approved I-551";
Passport or I-94 stamped "Processed for I-551"
or
Permit to Re-enter (Form I-327).

So, it sounds like there is a "Online TDL Renewal" loophole? :evil2:
I renewed my DL in November, and my wife in February. Both of us did it online, and received the DL a few weeks later in the mail. No documentation required.
