Yesterday Obama boldly proclaims to the White House Press Corps that 80% of Americans support a "Balanced Approach" including tax hikes for solving America's debt crisis. It sounded like a lie to me at the time, so I looked it up!

As the Beltway politicians try to figure out how they will raise the debt ceiling and for how long, most voters oppose including tax hikes in the deal.

Just 34% think a tax hike should be included in any legislation to raise the debt ceiling. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 55% disagree and say it should not.

Then only reason (maybe no only, but you understand) ALL of us don't lie, is that we have a penalty for lying.... Loss of job, jail, loss of family (divorce, etc.), what penalty does he have?
Since 99% (another fictitious number that is unsubstantiated with real scientific proof) of the media won't report on any of his or almost anyone on the left, when they "misspeak", what harm could become of them?

I have to disagree. There are those of us who try our best to always tell the truth, not because of some penalty for lying, but because it is simply the right thing to do. In my opinion, most people believe that everyone else is pretty much like them. Those who believe that the ends justify the means, and that all's fair as long as you get your way, justify their own bad behavior by saying that everyone is the same way. Do unto others before they have the chance to do unto you. It's a very self-centered approach to life. Obama has no problem lying through his teeth because that is the calibre of person he surrounds himself with, and they all feed off of each other. Lie down with dogs...

not sure you can say that without also saying that ALL POLLS can be biased and many are - on BOTH sides of ALL issues - many polls are made to prove a point, whereas the polls SHOULD be done to find a result and not fit a perspective.

I believe lying is probably the worst sin, simply because without it, the other sins aren't as easy to commit or get away with. It's the enabler.

Doesn't mean I've never lied, or that I won't again... incredible how something so destructive can be part of the instinct for self-preservation! It does mean that I try very hard to be truthful, even when it hurts. I've found it leads to greater trust in every relationship, and it also helps with my occasional memory lapses - if I always strive to tell the truth, I don't have to remember which version of the story I've told to which person.

Because a pathological liar believes his own lies....
