doubt such would pass, and with reciprocity, not really really needed, States being free to decide what other States to honor seems to be working, but this promotes the general cause; gets everyone knowing that concealed carry is "normal" instead of a MWAG .. and the more "normal" it is perceived to be, the closer campus carry post office carry, USACE carry etc becomes. (and in
some States, church carry ... why Government can regulate what goes on inside a church building, when they claim Separation of church and State .... boggles the mind) and in some States, restaurant carry like @ Luby's etc still isn't permitted ...

...I don't want to hand them the reins to my carry permit...state's more responsive to the will of the people...the history of the Feds is NOT to give us more because we do good with the first biscuit...but to hold a lotta hoops up before we get the biscuit...let 'em stay outa our carry rights...we'll be better off...

I agree with Speedsix that the less the Feds are involved in gun regulation, the better. On the flip side of that coin, however, is the Federal responsibility to make sure that the States don't violate the 2nd Amendment as both IL and NJ are doing now through regulation. I admit that walking the line between Federal regulations on an Bill of Rights issue and the ability of the Fed to make sure that the States aren't trampling the Bill of Rights will be subject to whatever party is in power.

I work for the Federal Government directly.. My day to day job, tasks assigned, etc are controlled by federal regulations, policy's and procedures..
THIS IS A BAD IDEA... I don't care to have the FED's anywhere near a Concealed Carry plan or policy

I would love to be able to drive to NY through NJ with my pistol--but the federalis screw things up way too much to trust them with something as important as this.

I'd rather have the National Reciprocity bill than Federal licensing.

I would rather the Federal Government go after states that have laws on the books that violate 2A rights. There is no reason or need for ANY more laws at this point.
The problem with Feds and the States is that all these guys do is sit around and make more laws. 1500 new laws in Texas this year? Give me a break. We need fewer laws which are better, clearer, and easier to enforce.

I want them to enforce the 2A. SHALL
NOT BE INFRINGED. That's all we need if we have a legitimate constitutional government, instead of the current band of domestic enemies of the constitution.

If he wants to pass something pro 2A, how about he eliminates the archaic rules regarding requiring a person to purchase a handgun only within their own state. I could drive to Georgia, for example, and see a handgun I want. I should be able to buy it from a GA FFL. Certainly NICS checks can be performed anywhere.
Another good law to pass would be to override all those idiots in DC trying to create enormous and onerous restrictions on firearm possession. How about since DC belongs to the whole country it must recognize and honor concealed handgun licenses from any and all states. Even people from IL could carry in DC if they had a non-resident CHL from someplace like Texas, Utah, Florida, etc.
While he is at it proposing gun laws, how about they repeal the 1986 Hughes Amendment eliminating adding new automatic weapons to the registry and repeal the 1968 GCA in its entirety. Heck, for that matter, get rid of the 1934 NFA garbage too.

...when I was a kid, people who did wrong were punished, restricted, and forbidden...now, when someone does wrong, all of the rest of us are punished, restricted, and forbidden...and the one who did the wrong is counselled and "understood" and fed ice cream...

Minor correction -- I'm pretty sure Sen. John Thune is from South Dakota, not Utah.
