My company just updated the Employee Manual today. The following is the new weapons policy:

Where legally enforceable, [company] prohibits on [company] premises or property leased or owned by [company], (collectively "[company] premises") the possession, concealment, use or transfer of any firearm or other weapon, including knives, clubs, explosives or other devices that are primarily used to inflict injury.

I take the "Where legally enforceable" part to mean if I have a CHL I can carry away. What's y'all's take on it?

Doesn't really matter because all of us Texas employees work from home but I have had to go to company headquarters in Virginia once or twice.

I take it to mean you can't carry on company property but they can't prohibit you from carrying in your home, where you work?

Of course, with limited exceptions, in Texas you can be fired for violating the provisions of an Employee Manual, or for anything or nothing, for that matter. If you, a CHLer, carried a concealed handgun on your employer's company premises, and were then fired, would that not be "legally enforcing" the provisions of the Manual?

I take the policy to mean that you are not allowed to have a weapon anywhere on company property unless the company must allow it in order to be in alignment with the law.
Example: company parking lot after Sep 2011.

That is different than saying it is only prohibited if it violates the law. In that case it would not be against company policy to carry in the office with CHL. But the way it is written (30.06 wording excluded) you would not be in violation of law if you carried in the office but you would be in violation of company policy.

2.) This is Texas and an employer can fire you for any reason (except reasons prohibited by law) so your (and my) interpretation doesn't matter.

Actually the interpretation of the handbook does matter as the guy probably wants to keep his job. I believe he is corrently not understanding the company policy which could directly lead to him losing his job. If he gains a proper understanding of the policy he would not risk his job by carrying at the office. And yes you are correct that the policy does not meet 30.06 which has little to do with wether or not he would lose his job.

And yes you are also correct that for the most part Texas is an at will state. Just the same, most people are not fired unless they have done something that would at least appear to warrant it.

I read that as: Anywhere the company could legally prohibit you from carrying is hereby off limits. Carrying in any of these locations is an infraction of company policy, whether any kind of notice was or wasn't given.

It's a super notice...but the disciplinary action would likely be unemployment; never legal since the notice is not 30.06 compliant.

Thanks, guys. I think I was reading into it what I wanted it to say instead of what it actually says. Disappointing, but not really a big deal since the office in Dallas closed in April and everyone's working from home now.

Depends on how much you like your job. They are still hard to find and I need mine to buy more guns.
