I went to DPSS today, and wanted to give a report. They have a very good selection of holsters and accessories. The guy working was very knowledgeable and helpful.

I felt a little awkward, because while I was asking about a holster for my J-frame he aske if I had the gun with me. When I replied "I'm not at liberty to say" he told me that while I was in his shop he had no problem with me removing my weapon from it's concealed location. When I hesitated he told me that if I wanted to I could use his office to remove my weapon and unload it, so I did.

We then tried my gun in a few holsters and he said if I bought one and tried it for a few days I could bring it back if I didn't like it.

Overall, this was a good experience. It's service like this that keeps me from buying too much stuff over the internet. Sure, I could save some money, but in the long run if I end up with a drawer full of holsters that I saved $10 each on rather than one that truly fits me what have I gained.

It's also nice to support a local business, so when I need something immediately I know I can get it.

Good experience for you. I agree on being able to try on what you want if possible.
Different places are different & it is good to learn the people & policies of the places you trade.
Now you will be comfortable going in there w/ that gentleman looking for something for your carry weapon & just asking "Permission to uncover & clear".
In the small towns of East Texas, & our gun shops, there is not much secrecy, just conceal.
I am the Range Marshal at the local gun range. Teach several people every yr how to carry & conceal. Encourage everyone that applies & joins the range to carry.
I don't go around telling folks that I have one on at the present time but it dont take Perry Mason to figure it out.
When I go to see a good friend of mine in NE Texas & we go to Texarkana to look, I am quit different. ;-)

They are on Elm Street in Dallas. I looked them up through the internet Yellow Pages.

This place gets a "two thumbs up" from me. One of the most customer-friendly retailers that I've patronized. Mark spent about forty five minutes pulling pieces together to build and fit a custom shoulder rig for me, which functions beautifully. It's very easy to find: I-30 (from Fort Worth) to 75 North to Commerce-Elm exit, and it's a couple of blocks toward downtown on the left. Great place to use that extra Christmas cash.

I was with AV8R at his visit and can attest that both the fellows working the counter were very friendly and very competent. I would have no qualms about going there by myself if I were in need of a fitted rig. (or if I needed to get someone one more present)

They are very fine folks. I have been buying from them since LE years in the 80's. They still give the LEO discount

Wasn't this Wald's Police Supply back in back in the 70s and 80s?

You took the words right out of my mouth. Wald's back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s catered mainly to Dallas PD. They were just around the corner from the old DPD headquarters.
