When filling out the application for standard CHL, I came to the question regarding arrest history. I was arrested as a juvenile in about 1973 or '74, don't exactly remember. I was basically arrested for vandalism but I can't even remember what the outcome was with regards to the court, my dad took care of the issue. This did not happen in Texas.
Can anyone tell me if this information needs to be submitted?

If you were fingerprinted and booked into jail you have to report it, even if juvenile and the record has been sealed (DPS can still find out—they can poke through that stuff).

It could be the cops just brought you home or had your parents pick you up at the station. In that case you don't have to report it as an arrest.

Maybe your dad can remember if you actually were in the slammer.

I was "arrested" or so I thought, for vandalism in NY back when I was 12.
When I called the county sheriff about it, they laughed, said there is no record, it was a family court issue, not penal court.

So depending on how old you were, I would call the county clerk, or sheriff, to get their opinion.

most likely, as you stated "juvenile", you are probably in the same boat as me, and no need to report it

I don't know the timeframe in question or the place where it happened, but they actually arrest minors a lot more now than they used to when I was a kid. I've heard of minors being taken into custody for things like smoking or fighting (simple assault).

Jim, thanks for the reply. I did get "processed" but have wondered to this day whether or not it was a scare tatic. Never went into a cell, but did have prints and pictures.
Unfortunately, Dad passed in '78.
Your idea to call the sherrif, etc. is good. I'll see what I can do.

Unfortunately, if you were printed you need to report it and provide a disposition.

Probably you can get a letter from court officials saying that they have no record of you being convicted of anything. With a minor juvenile offense over 30 years ago, they are not likely to have any record that anyone could find today.

I wouldn't bother reporting it. As an investigator myself, (not for the DPS) they probably will not even find the records, especially if it didn't happen in Texas. If the court no longer has any records of the incident, it never happened.
