Of 10 local law enforcement leaders contacted by The Beacon-News, none said they opposed concealed carry

.............

Law enforcement’s opinion on any potential legislation will likely weigh heavily as the debate continues ....

I thought those nice folks in the west end and south end of Chicago are enjoying the Mexican style carry, is it the dark-side constitutional carry?

typical story: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/loca ... 5567.story" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I guess they have the dark-side of MPA too :

When I was stationed out in California, one of the Reservists in my maintenance unit was a San Francisco police officer, a patrolman type. He worked some pretty bad neighborhoods and had been in a few tough situations. So, since San Fran is such a liberal city, I was curious what he would say about concealed carry by otherwise law-abiding folks (since its almost impossible to get a carry permit there). He said that he had NO PROBLEM with non-LEOs carrying because he had to operate upon the assumption that EVERYONE has the potential to be armed. He said he wished California would fix their CHL program so that people could carry LEGALLY so that it would be easier to sort things out when he had to stop people. And he also said he knew that the people running that city would never go for it. Not what I expected him to say, I'll tell you that.

Slowly but surley the CHL and CCW programs are proving to be very successful. History, statistics and the facts are indisputable, CHLer's are not the problem. :fire

The problem is that the Brady bunch, and others, have a history of ignoring the facts. Facts are an inconvenience to their fear-mongering argument.

NJ is another State where gun rights are trampled. NJ is also one of only a couple of States were drivers are not permitted to pump their own gas. It is a "safety" issue according to NJ lawmakers. When you talk to people in NJ (I lived there for 3 years), they all acknowledge that citing safety as a reason for not allowing people to pump their own gas is a specious argument. There are at least 46 other States that prove that. Nevertheless, NJ does consider the results of those other States. You could cite the results with CCW and CHL laws in Flordia and Texas all day and NJ is still going to have an anti-gun bent with its citizens.

If you will look at the overall State government posture, it you will see that the States with the most overbearing approach toward their citizens in general (NJ, NY, MD, IL to name a few) are also the most vociferous in their opposition to concealed handguns. I suspect that the root of their concern is in the old adage about politicians fearing armed peasants.

Yes Bradys etc ignore facts

Even I have twice as many pro-gun twitter followers as they have

Problem is when they put out a call to action, they ALL respond, but when I post polls used against us like last time in legislative hearings I get replies of "oh those aren't scientific polls, they are useless so I won't bother"

So, a "Slam dunk" turns into
January polling showed that 67% of registered voters in Texas oppose the legislation. A referendum of students at Texas A&M University showed consistent opposition for the second year in a row

You think it was a biased push poll? it was, it's an outright lie, but what do legislators HEAR? "POLL RESULTS"

Those guys work year-round promoting their cause, while most campus carry supporters work 40 times harder for a few months every 2 years trying to re-educate the ones they lost to repetitive brainwashing over 2 years.

I think I'll sit out the 2012 election as a protest and hope for the best. [ / end rant ]

Sorry for the rant, just frustrated sometimes :mrgreen:

(In all fairness, it was another forum I got the apathetic replies, not here) viewtopic.php?f=90&t=47428" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
