Private gun loan/rental question

I have a friend of mine who I plan to barrow a semeautomic hand gun for a period of a week. While my friend is willing to lone it, I feel guilty about using it without reimbursing him. My question is when money is exchanged doesn’t it become a rental? I know an FFL is required to do the same paperwork as if it were a gun sale when a rental is taken off site, but what about individuals? Wouldn’t it be the same as a private firearm sale between two in state residents? We are both CHL’s so we know each other is legally able to possess a firearm. I don’t think it’s big deal, but it just got me thinking and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

I'd just buy the guy a box of ammo for said gun upon its safe return. If he's a friend, why try to make it a business transaction?

:iagree: Return it freshly cleaned, lubed and polished with a box of ammo or a gift card to a restaurant for he and his significant other to enjoy as a thank you for the loan of the gun.

The ammo suggestion is good. It's similar to borrowing a friend's car or pickup and returning it with a full tank of gas.

Ive let a few good friends borrow my guns . Most of the time I get a 6pack and ammo in return. Have let a few other good but not as close shoot my guns when I am with them, its usally a lunch the brass and a few unshoot rounds. I dont have a problem letting someone shoot my stuff to see if they like them but I will only let a really close friend actually borrow my guns.

The comparison about borrowing someone's car and returning it full of gas is the best analogy. No money should change hands, just appreciation in my eyes.
