The Austin Humane Society has 'free of charge' adoptions right now (Sunday and Monday) because the shelter is now without A/C:

A City of Austin transformer blew early Sunday morning burning up the motors in our air conditioner leaving the 219 animals at the shelter without air conditioning. All adoptions Sunday & Monday are FREE! All of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations and come with 30 days free pet health insurance! Meet our adoptable dogs and cats now!
