IANAL and this theory has probably been tested in court. Government can't constitutionally proscribe to any religion but my interpretation would be that it can't limit or control the free exercise thereof. JMHO The decision that a memorial for a religion based attack on America can't be religious is a sad commentary on the state of PC in a country founded on Judeo-Christian laws and beliefs. I hope Bloomberg is carried out, figuratively on a rail, next election. I remember where I was when we were attacked and tearing up as i watched the slaughter unfold and I also remember thinking when we relaized who carried it out that we should NEVER Forget! Ten years hence Bloomgerg not only doesn't remember he wants to erase any connection to this jihad.

Now that dirtbag will never be elected to a national office. Now it could only get better if a federal court would issue an injunction against him.

Charles, you'll love this one too..... He also barred the fire and police departments from attending, unless someone was an immediate family member of one of the victims. The fire department's response: "We ARE family!" Nobody gets elected to mayoral office in New York without support from the fire and police unions. He has just royally insulted them. He'll never get re-elected as mayor either. Good news all around.

Perhaps in his retirement, he can go around and hire people to do straw gun purchases for him. Except he won't have the mantle of political office to protect him

(Disclaimer: I am not trying to start a discussion on religion. I just want to discuss how one is able (or not able) to properly confess/proclaim one's own beliefs in such a setting.)

Actually, I'm glad he barred clergy participation - and I are one! This is a civic event, and should be observed as such. The only possible outcome would be to equate all religions with one another, or worse, to muddle one's own confession in the face of those who dictate what can be said.

My own church body had quite a row over one of our clergy participating in the original "Prayer for America" memorial on 9/23/01. That interfaith service confused the beliefs of the individual religions and destroyed any possible proclamation of the Christian gospel.

If the choice is to clearly proclaim Christ and Him crucified, or to go along to get along and appear unified with the other religions present, then I'm staying home. I'll remember those lives lost in worship and we'll perhaps shed a tear or two (God forbid that happen amongst the Lutherans!), but I'll not participate in anything that the likes of Bloomberg set the agenda for.

The 1st Amendment states (in part):
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".

Some folks conveniently forget the second part of the law respecting an establishment of religion. Can't set up a "state approved religion", but they can't stop the "free exercise" of religion. At least that's how its supposed to work.

They're not prohibiting the free exercise thereof, according to what I have read. I see no credible evidence the families will be denied the right to pray at the ceremonies. In addition, no matter whether they're Christian, Hindu or Rastafari, they have the right to remember their loved ones without having someone else's religion forced upon them.

If a person feels a desire to pray, a person should pray, regardless of what anyone else says about it.

Someone needs to BAN BLOOMBERG!
