Customers were still showing up at the business into Tuesday afternoon, puzzled at the store's sudden closing.
"Yesterday, I found out they had opened up in this location," said Las Cruces resident Bruce Cranmer. "I needed some reloading supplies, so I went down to pick them up."
Diversion from ATF scandal
The indictment against the Reeses is the result of a investigation spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations that later expanded to include the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. attorney's Las Cruces office.
The indictment alleges that in July 2010, Ryin Reese sold 18 firearms to an individual who arranged to smuggle them into Mexico -- and into the hands of Mexican cartel members. He also helped a straw purchaser -- someone who buys firearms under false pretenses -- complete ATF forms, according to the indictment. On Aug. 28, 2010, after receiving a notice from law enforcement that a firearm sold by New Deal had been recovered, Terri Reese told the straw purchaser about the notice and expressed concern that her phones were being monitored by law enforcement, the indictment alleged.

I do not understand why an FFL dealer would aid in a straw purchase?
A dealer can sell any number of firearms and ammo to anyone who is legally able to purchase them. Do the paper work, get a NICS done, and fill paper for multiple pistols purchase (and now multiple long arms too). All federally legal. If someone can and clearly stated he is a straw purchaser or wants to falsify fed forms. He is most likely a undercover agent.
Also, why bother with repacking ammo? it is something the dealer would never do.
If an FFL dealer wants to act like a stupid to make an extra buck, trouble is ahead.
