First day with plastic, so I kept gun in holster instead of putting in console.
I wear IWB or OWB at 4oclk. But I found that with seat belt and arm rest, it would require great effort to draw if needed.
What do you do?
Would rather carry on person, since if someone did get drop on me, and pulled me out of car, I dont think I would get a time out so that I could open console and draw weapon......
Also thinking that my best chance to deal with it would be while perp was getting in car since perp would be alittle off guard at that time. So gun would need to be on me in that case...
So what do you think??? What position??? Cross draw maybe?? More forward with shirt pull out of lap belt???

My first day with Plastic too. Just in time to carry to my employer's parking lot.

These same thoughts ran though my mind last night. I think my preferred solution will be to tuck the gun in the space between my seat and the console, covering it with a towel or cap.

For now, I just have a nylon Black Hawk IWB hoster for my XDm, and I'm not comfortable reholstering while the gun is hot for worry that the holster or my pants will snag the trigger before the holster covers the trigger guard. Since I don't currently want to unholster/re-holster getting in and out of the car, I'm just leaving it at 3-4 o'clock while driving. Once I get a Kydex IWB holster I won't have to worry about a collapsed holster snagging, and I'll probably keep the Black Hawk between the seat and console and holster/unholster when I get in and out of the car.

Tough to beat the access of a cross draw, while seated. They just don't hide as well as a good strong side iwb. You could possibly consider a small back up in a cross draw, and still tote the primary strong side. Keeping the back up on your weak side would also allow you to access it with your weak hand, should the need arise.

Everyone has to find what works for them.

While carrying, about 3:30-5:00, I have gotten used to driving without the armrest down in order to have better access. I usually carry with a paddle holster that I can slide a bit, so when I get in the truck I will position it so that it is right between the seat belt buckle and the seat.

I carry at 3:30 and seem to be able to reach it fine, with my seatbelt on. It is not the easiest, or the fastest draw, but I still have a gun that I can get to pretty fast.

...if I were right-handed, I'd have to have a car gun...in the console or hanging on the front of the seat under my legs...and go for it instead of my holstered gun...being a lefty, I've always just fallen over to the center of the car if I had to draw...when my gun was OWB on left hip...now I carry exclusively in appendix position IWB...after I buckle up, I pull my shirt free of the seatbelt...which rides under my jeans belt...access is fast and easy as if I were standing up...and if my left arm was pinned, I can reach/draw either the primary or BUG with my right hand... find what works for you...some guys carry an ankle holster with a BUG inside opposite ankle...easy to draw with opposite hand while seated...when wearing a coat or jacket, a J snub or the like in the right pocket would be a natural...let your coat pocket lay free of the seatbelt and you can even talk to someone with your hand on it and you can cover either window without drawing...it's a plus for a righty...

Nothing beats a shoulder holster for drawing from a seated position. Need to practice and be careful of the draw as it is easy to sweep innocent targets unless careful,

I carry at about 4 o'clock, and I feel confident my draw would be fast enough even with seatbelt. I do keep other guns in the car all the time...my car has a little pop-open compartment right next to the steering wheel that fits my S&W .380 perfectly. Between my holstered gun and that I feel pretty good about my options. Like everything else, you'll just need to try different things to see what works for you. Good luck.

so I went to range to try something..... and......
I CAN SHOOT LEFTY ALSO!!!!!
Problem solved!!!! I can carry on both sides!!!!

Need to buy 2nd pistol for left hip and that might help with bulge, since will have one on both sides!!!

But now I got to explain this plan to the wife...

I shoot equally well with either hand. Comes in handy (bad pun intended).

You lucky bugger! I can manage a pretty decent grouping shooting lefty; but I have to spin around twice, say a hail Mary (and I'm not even catholic), and cough three times.
I am working on this though. I'm down from 5 spins to just three now.

I'm sure the wife will understand. Make her breakfast in bed one morning, and pose the suggestion to her while she's still groggy.

I'm ambidexterous and always practice with both hands. Left hand a little stronger but the accuracy is the same. I can also write with either hand.
Remember when carrying a gun in the car it needs to be concealed.

3 o'clock with Glock 22 in Crossbreed IWB. With pracice I can draw pretty well.

While driving I keep my LC9 in a pouch in front of the drivers seat. When I bought the car I wasn't carrying so it never dawned on me but now I really like it there. The carry sits very nicely between my knees and is easily drawn while seated. Hope I can keep the car running!
