I had to take the wife to the location off of SH249 across from the Silverado movie theater in Tomball yesterday for treament of 3 finger lacerations. I wanted to let those in the area know that our experience there was excellent. Except for the 15 stitches she recieved in her left index finger. They accept Aetna insurance and had us in and out in a timely fashion. This is an excellent alternative to visting the ER at any of the local hospitals. It doesn't hurt that they're not posted.

I've heard of other similar positive experiences there from friends. I told my wife if I ever get hurt bad enough that I want to go there rather than spending all day at the emergency room. The best part is it's just around the corner from me.

We have a place like that close to us too. It is called First Choice 24 hour Emergency. It is more than an urgent care place, but less than a hospital emergency room.

We went on a Friday night for a possible wrist fracture. They did x-rays, got us right in and out, they took our insurance, and we just paid our normal co-pay.

I cannot imagine a more pleasant experience! Especially considering that we would have waited hours at the hospital. And, no 30.06. We even chatted about CHL with the staff!

Yeah, I call those locations a 'Doc-in-the-Box'. I will definately use them over an emergency room in a non-critical situation. I have to pay the same co-pay amount as an emergency room visit for those anyway, and they are usually MUCH faster.

I have been there and Emerus is top notch. great staff, great doctors...

If you're hurt badly enough that you can't tell your wife AND the paramedics where you want to go, you'll be going to the local trauma center (if your medics operate under the same protocols that most EMS agencies use). That's, like, one of the major indications that you might need more than a doc-in-a-box.

Technically, the Glascow Coma Scale (GCS) is used to determine neurological functioning, one of the major indicators of level of trauma. Being unable to tell the paramedics clearly where you want to go means that you're GCS is, at best, a 12 on the scale of 3 to 15. 3 is reserved for rocks, brain dead people, and... well, that's about it. 14 or 15 usually indicate someone that's stable enough to go to almost any emergency room. 13 and below is indicative of a trauma center in your future. But, if you're well enough to worry about cleaning up the mess you made with your bleeding, then one of the freestanding emergency clinics probably will suffice!

25 years as a Licensed Paramedic with Critical Care certification and State of Texas EMS instructor, retired from both, now.
But, Holiday Inn's are always good for refresher training.
