I've seen some of you comment about places where 30.06 are posted, including the Cypress Creek YMCA in Houston. Even my CHL instructor mentioned this location during our class to say that he went there to sign up his kids for sports, saw the sign and left. I enjoy going there and don't plan to stop, but wanted to let the director know how I felt. I've gone the same time every week for months and happen to walk by his office, which is always dark. I've been wanting to write him letter and slip it under the door and I finally did it today. I prepared to slip my envelope under his door when I realized it was open, the light was on and he was there. I said hi, set my envelope on a table near the door (the letter was anonymous) and left. I was a few minutes early for my class and got to wondering, after all these months and all these intentions, if there wasn't some meaning in him being there the day I actually brought the letter. So, I went back down and he was just finishing up reading the letter.
He explained that he is an Oklahoma boy, hunter and all but told me he is a CHL holder himself (not sure, but I did get the vibe that he wanted to say something that he couldn't) and that he totally agreed with me. The prohibition is all about the insurance company that covers several Ys in the area. There was a period, after a remodel, that the sign wasn't there, he didn't say anything and no one (anti-gunners) noticed. During this time, someone's locker was broken into, and a handgun was stolen. After this, the insurance company made them put the sign back up.
He said there have been conversations at corporate about how great it would be if you could background check everyone coming through the door. With CHL holders, that has been done and those are the people you want. Unfortunately, corporations are what they are.
He said he was going to fax my letter to the corporate office right then and walked out of the office with the letter in his hand as we said goodbye. It was a great interaction. Just wanted to share this with yall.

I used to be a member there. The sign is why I quit. I might consider a new membership if they do the right thing.

I will make a prediction. That will not happen.

You should let them know. Otherwise they have no idea why. Thanks! :patriot:

My doctor recommended that I join the Y to have a place to swim. I am out from work due to a herniated disc. He told me swimming was the best exercise to get me back in gear. I am very hestiant to sign up to the Y bc of their anti gun policy. It's not that I am carrying anyways since my back is so jacked but principles you know...

We are members of the Y in Alvin and there is a sign at the front door but it's not even close to being compliant. It has 1/2" letters on clear plastic against a dark background and a gunbuster above it.. We walked past it for years and I never saw it. Finally one day my wife did and pointed it out to me. I informed her that the sign is non compliant and the gun buster is non compliant because I don't have a Beretta 92.
