How many take Ayoob's advice and carry a throw-down wallet?

I carry primary wallet, keys, iPhone, worm dirt, folding knife, G26 IWB, and about to order wilderness horizontal mag pouch.

I like the idea but my 170lb frame in a pair of jeans can only hold so much. Maybe a pair of 5.11 taclight pros are in order.

...I don't...I can draw and fire as quickly as I can pull a wallet out and give it to him...once he sees what's in my wallet, he's gonna shoot me anyways...

if he saw the contents of my primary wallet he would shoot me

...back in the old days, that was common advice...throw down a wallet or a wad with a 20 wrapping some ones and they'd go for it and give you a chance to run for it...nowadays...they'd likely shoot you for "dissing" them by throwing it down, and I can't run anyways...I wouldn't give that advice anymore...the mindset of the average thug-on-the-street has changed considerably...

...this cracks me up. Why don't you carry some rattlesnake anti-venin as well? There's probably as much of a chance that you're gonna get bit by one as this exact same scenario unfolding where a perp gets you in a scenario where you need a throw down wallet.

credit cards, licenses etc in a wallet that doesn't look like one, located not where I'd carry a wallet

Money clip type folding thingy with some money in it in back pocket

It's what I do; but really because my fat wallet made my back hurt when I sat on it.

I've been known to carry a small amt. of cash with a clip in my left front pocket when walking around in somewhat unsavory areas-- I figure it could either limit my loss or give me a slight advantage with a distraction (moving my weak hand) and leaving my strong hand free. Slight advantage vs none=OK in my book.

Oh really....like the time a guy tried to mug me (although never been bitten by a snake). I don't know where you live, but even in Abilene the "Gimmie your wallet" is not unheard of.

The best answer to this is to not carry a bunch of stuff you don't need, IMHO.

I laugh when I see guys open their wallet and they have 10 credit cards, their SS card, and all kinds of other crap they'll never need on a daily basis.

I downsized to what basically amounts to a money clip. My DL, AMEX, Corporate AMEX, Bank Card and Medical Card. I rarely carry any cash.

There's nothing in there that I can't have replaced in a few days or so - no harm done...if I lose it or if someone 'try's' to take it.

As for you 'attempting' mugging...I'd bet good money that the number of folks that have been on the wrong end of something like this that are members of this forum is exponentially higher than what the actual probability is that this would occur. I don't know the stats - but my gut feeling is that most people that get a CHL have had something like this happen in their past. The last time I looked at the numbers there was like 1% of the pop of TX that had a CHL.

I mean, whatever floats your boat...carry two wallets, and your gun...hell, a BUG and a couple extra mags just in case you end up in a real life "Die Hard" hostage situation...

Thats just it... in a free society, everyone should be able to carry whatever they want in their wallets/pockets/etc... we shouldn't have to worry about bad guys. I refuse to live with bars on my windows, thinned out wallets, etc. Thus I carry 24/7 that I may. BTW, it is highly suggested you carry an extra mag or two... Clint Smith at Thunder Ranch drills that "one is none/two is one" due to the fact that half the time, gun probs are magazine probs. BTW, I can't find the news story now, but just recently there was a case of mugger in a walmart parking lot, demanding the guys wallet. He went to lift his shirt for it and the mugger saw his gun sticking out and ran. As for percent of Texans who have CHL, I believe it is closer to 1.5%

Hopefully the officer is understanding when he comes to take your mugging report and you're carrying but your chl is in your now stolen wallet?

You really don't think the officer will buy that I have a CHL and it was in my stolen wallet? LEO's can make a call and see you have a CHL. Where do you keep your CHL? Mine is in my wallet right next to my TXDL..... Exactly where the deputy sherrif who taught our CHL class suggested.

Nor was my response intended, just fact... the LEO's are able to find in their data base that you have a CHL. If the wallet is stolen, yours wouldn't be the first that happened to, and with it your ID.

When we went to Galveston, a few months ago, it was the first time I had gone on vacation with my CHL. I did carry a throw down wallet, as an experiment. I have not carried one since then, but not because I think they are silly. The idea of carrying it there was so that I did not have all of my hard to replace cards, and money, taken away from me. I am right-handed. I kept the throw away in my back left pocket. I figured I would turn my weak side towards the BG (my left side) which would partially shield my strong-side. I would throw him the wallet and at least have my hand on the grip. At that point the BG is either going to take it and run, or open it up and get irritated. If he was to open it, I would be ready to end the confrontation as need be.

I ran it through my mind a lot, and it all sounded good...but who really knows until the stool hits the fan, so to speak.
