Can anyone offer a good comparison between the Kimber Ultra Carry II and the Colt defender...both in .45 and stainless finish.
I currently have the Colt Defender and it is a great pistol, does it's job well and is accurate to a tee. However, I see a whole mess of folks who swear by Kimber as being a fantastic manufacture. I have been giving more and more thought as to picking one up...not that I need another pistol, but well maybe I do.
Anyway how about some first hand feedback comparing the two please.

I think that a Colt Defender is a great gun. I personally don’t own one though. I have a Kimber UCII that works very well. I don’t think it is a better gun than the Colt. One is as good as the other if it goes bang when you hit the switch. That said you can always use another gun. Now you made me want to go buy a Colt.

While I don't own the specific models you are asking about, I have a Colt Commander and a Kimber Crimson Carry. In my experience, both pistols are very high quality. I don't think I could recommend one brand over the other. The only minimal gripe I have is that I need a special tool to take down the Kimber, but I can take the Colt down without any tool. This is really nit-picking on my part and would not use this small detail as a factor in my purchase of another Kimber. Since you already have the Colt, go ahead and get the Kimber as your Colt may be lonely and need a friend.

I lost that special tool directly after buying my Kimber. Now I find that tool is a paper clip.

I think I will pass on the Kimber. I had a Charles Daly .45 Commander stainless that I really liked, but it took a paper clip to field strip. I thought that was nuts then and sold the gun...not going down that road again. Make me enjoy my Cold even more.
