Today's Carter Country Add - 9/29 - 21 to buy AR

I noticed in today's add, there is an advertisement for a Bushmaster Carbon 15 for sale. At the bottom of the description it says, "Must be 21 years old to purchase"

That is not listed under any of the other rifles or shotguns that are for sale. I have not noticed this before. Is anyone aware of this policy change and why it has been put in place?

No, just a regular Bushmaster AR-15

It may be that its a pistol grip, I had clerks at Academy on 2 occasions tell me that a pistol grip shotgun can only be sold to someone 21 or over but a standard one was ok for 18.

I'm not aware of any legal restrictions due to a pistol grip on a rifle or shotgun that would change the eligible age of purchase from 18 to 21, so this must be a company policy. I believe this is something new for Carter's Country and its disconcerting.

They have a S&W AR on the second page with no such statement... Must me a 'typo'.

Looks like company policy and not a typo. The sept free finance ad has two more listed as 21 required

I have bought stuff at the Carter Country on Treaschwig Rd. before and haven't had any problems with them. Has anyone attempted to contact CC and find out the story behind this one? I don't live down that way (my dad does), otherwise I'd be tempted to find out myself out of sheer curiosity.

The last year or more CC add has had that on any long gun with a pistol grip. I want to say I have seen a few places at gun shows with stuff saying the same thing on a few guns too.

I called them today and asked about this and I was told that it is company policy.

My family has purchased several firearms from them over the past decade and we've always enjoyed going there.

I won't support a company that has policies that are more restrictive than the gun laws themselves.

Maybe I'm just being an augmentative libertarian here, but I would rather the government stay out of most things and let private business make their own decisions. The government has screws us more than than any sporting goods store has. I personally wouldn't sell any gun to anyone under 21, unless I knew them real well. This doesn't mean the government should make the laws any tougher just that we and businesses should be able to make decisions that they are comfortable with.

So, I'm supposed to gather that CC would sell a Mini-14 to an 18-20 year old but not an AR solely because it has a pistol grip? C'mon...I find their policy to be kind of silly and pointless...much like the thankfully demised "AWB".

No disagreement from me. I don't want the government telling CC what they should or shouldn't do. I believe businesses should have the right to choose who they do and don't want to sell to. I reserve the right to disagree with their choice and spend my dollars elsewhere.

My issue is that a gun store has taken a more restrictive stance than the government itself.

I've given them a lot of money over the years, but they make it harder and harder to do.
