Hello everyone! This is my first post here so I thought I should introduce myself.

My name is Leo, actually it's Leonardo, but I go by Leo. I was born in Uruguay (small country in South America) where I worked as a Flight Instructor and also flew for jumpers and some VIP guys (politicians), until I moved to Houston by the end of 2008. Now I work for a financial company while I look for a job flying here in the US.
I have always supported the idea of good law abiding citizens (residents too ) carrying guns ANYWHERE, and that's why I took the CHL class against my wife's will on 10/08/11, got the fingerprints taken on 10/11/11, mailed all the documents on 10/13/11 and got confirmation of package received on 10/17/11.
Yesterday 10/22/11 the first change in application status was shown online, it shows "Background Check: Under review". So hopefully I should have the plastic in the mail in a few weeks!!! :woohoo

The gun I have now is not concealable at all, since it's a 6" barrel .357 Mag revolver (although in the winter I might be able to take it out of the house with a shoulder holster) but I am planning on getting a Glock 19 or 23, not sure which one yet, as soon as I get the plastic in the mail.

I find this forum very informative, I enjoy reading it, I feel like we all have several things in common, and we all fight for our right to keep and bear arms.

I'll post pictures of my CHL class target and my guns later today or tomorrow.

P.S. Sorry if I made any mistakes, English is not my native language, but I try my best :thumbs2:

Welcome to the forum Leo. Congratulations on your immigration to the U.S.

Don't worry about your grammar. So far, it's better than many of the natives'.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome, I really feel this forum is the right place to learn a lot.

Will update the info on my application with DPS, it looks like they are faster processing this applications now compared to what I've read from others that went through the process in the past.
Hopefully the fact that I was not born in the US does not slow the process, will see.

Leo,
NRA member.

Don't get discouraged, but it may. It added about a week and one half to my brother-in-law's processing times. But then again, he and I could have had different reviwers working at different paces over at the DPS.

Welcome!

Yeah I figured it may take longer since every background check I've gone through before has taken a lot of time. The one my employer did took 8 weeks when It usually takes one or two. They said they had to research records from my native country through "Interpol", I don't know but it sounds logical. The one for my pilot's license with the FAA took about 6 weeks, so I know I have a few more weeks to wait!

Anyway I'll keep learning from this forum while I wait for it. I'll keep posting any changes in the application status with DPS.

Thanks to everybody for the nice comments ;o)

Leo.

After checking online every day without any changes in the status I got a bit tired and disappointed, and quit checking for like a week.
Today I got online to check again without much hope, and there it was "Concealed Handgun License: MAILED" :woohoo
