At 12 these two boys (street urchins that they are) are probably incapable of realizing the harm they have done. Hopefully the courts will hold them responsible and accountable until such a time and age when they both understand and feel in the flesh the error of their youth.

As for their parents, that's a different matter.

Somewhere in the bible, there is a reference to the "age of accountability" and that age, as I recall, is twelve - as in 12.

Somebody get some ropes! The operative word for all of us is ACCOUNTABILITY.

The boys should be taken to the hospital to see what they have done. Maybe then it would sink in.

You think? I say hang 'em and maybe the others will see what's in store for them if they don't do right. An eye for an eye - it's in the Good Book.

Don't take this personally, but apparently you don't work with adolescents. At 12, a child is certainly capable of knowing right from wrong and making decisions that consider the consequences of their actions. These punks just didn't care (witness their cavalier attitudes after their arrest). Gang wannabees or choir boys gone wrong - makes no difference: they should be prosecuted for attempted murder with grave bodily injury and spend the next several decades incarcerated.

Yes, I believe it is in 3 Maccabees 5:1 when Hermon, keeper of the elephants, brought the Elephants to King Ptolemy Philopator. The king was overjoyed, threw a party, and declared that the age of accountability would be twelve years old for all in the kingdom... Or I might have this mixed up with a different reference?

Everyone should take your comment personally and to heart. Well said!

We took a group of youth from our church to a church in an under privlidged area of inner city Houston as part of a youth program. A lot of children showed up and one in particular drew my attention becausse he would take the ball and keep it. He didn't run off with it, he just moved away and refused to throw it back. I approached him and convinced him he had to behave to play. This little boy was no more than 5 years old. As I spoke to him I looked at his forearm and could hardly believe my eyes. There was a gang tattoo on this poor kid,not a small one either. The Pastor told me it's typical for gang members to do that to their children. I don't think he really knew why he tried to keep the ball. His values were already warped. Could be those kids were raised in the same type of environment. I didn't have much hope for the poor kid I encountered.

When my son was 12 he commented to me, on some incident of a 12 year old committing some horrific act, that kids his age were perfectly capable of understanding right from wrong and the consequences of their actions. I think you proceed from a mistaken assumption if you believe this is merely an error of youth and that such kids will ultimately develop a sense of moral accountability. Some may, but I think the moral compass of most 12 year olds is already set, and that many 12 year olds who commit acts like this are only going to do worse as they get older.

All I have to say it's silly to treat a rabid puppy different than a rabid adult dog.

So is banshing women to the outskirts of town during a certain time of the month, but I don't see people outraged when that "Good Book" requirement isn't followed. :coolgleamA: "rlol"
