How tough would it be to get a copy of your old driving record so you have the dates?

I will look in to that,I dont know if the driving record goes back that far.Do i have to document everything? Why cant they do their check and go by that? Their is nothing on my record that would prevent me from getting a C.H.L.

Misdemeanors convictions from twentysomething years ago will not affect geting your CHL, but you do need to disclose them on the application.
Best thing to do is first contact the agency that processed you. In Texas, that is usually the county criminal court clerk. If they have records, YOU need to get them. You will be much more interested in getting your own records than DPS will, and probably speedier too.
If the offenses are so old that there is no record, then try to get the agency to send you a letter that they have no records on you.

from what I understand that disqualifies you if you fail to provide the info.
It's why I listed that at 15 years old I was carrying a BB gun and taken to the jail until my parents picked me up over 42 years ago, and 39 years ago arrested, fingerprinted photographed, and jailed for what was then a felony (not now), though they figured out after about 12 hours, it was another person in the car and didn't charge nor prosecute me. .... I listed them as a possible arrest and an arrest... there is no court records, no charges filed either time, the DPS checked them out, I provided certificates of no records from clerks and was licensed .... had I not disclosed the info and it showed up (it could... a life insurance Co pulled it up once somehow on some computer in the early 1970s) I would have been ineligible to get a CHL for not listing it..... even though they weren't disqualifying arrests.

One of the requirements for eligibility is not lying on the application.
"has not made any material misrepresentation, or failed to disclose any material fact"
