Well, ole' Benji's suspicions were correct. It appears that we couldn't keep it! A Republican form of government that is. I will miss you terribly. You were a place of comfort and security for me and mine. A great place to raise a family with good Christian values and mores. And now, we have failed you miserably. It is with great shame that I say good-bye to you. I only hope the future generations hear of your kindness, your generosity, your hope, your trust and most importantly, your naive ways that allowed us to take advantage of you and bring you to your knees, which was for many years, our ultimate goal. You were "high maintenance". We should've known it was only a matter of time before our humanly desires became more important than the security and happiness for the collective whole. So long old friend, land of the "free", home of the "brave". Another time, perhaps.

Scnapps is for sissies, but it sounds so much more funny. Scotch, particularly of the single malt variety (I like the peaty lowland single malts myself), is for much more serious contemplation. I was trying to lighten the mood.

I'm partial to Rumple Minze at the moment. (One of these days I'll remember that while the liquor stores are open...)

This forum could be my new addiction.. Now that I am on coffee, prepare to be baffled. I recently became a resident of south TX, where it seems everyone is a gun nut (thats a good thing). Tell me, why is the mood in favor of firearms so much more intensified down here vs. north TX? Don't misunderstand, it is favorable in the Ft. Worth area, but in Corpus, it seems that I'm in gun lovers heaven. I am re-applying for my FFL ( I let it go in 2010, trying to get it back). While speaking to the Chief of Police of a smaller community, it soon became obvious to me that he was the biggest gun nut of them all.. It was incredible.

Nudge yourself up a little closer to San Antonio and you'll see the "insanity" return. Heck, I have to lock up my pocketknife every time I drive to visit my mom in SA (because it's ILLEGAL, unlike anywhere else in Texas).

I am from Ohio, and I should say, the worst place in Texas beats the best place in Ohio (once upon a time), where one had the duty to retreat. One could only shoot a home invader if he blocked your escape route.

I had my CHL in Ohio as well, but to be honest with you, the laws were so vague, I was terrified to be caught carrying anywhere. Once i got my CHL there, I was pulled over 9 times in less than a years time. They were just itching to catch us carrying in the wrong manner. At least here, in TX, I feel comfortable knowing that even law enforcement (in general) approve of a persons right to carry.

What is this "wrong way" of which you speak?

CHL holders have to carry their weapons on their person, Non-concealed, while in a vehicle ( the weapon has to be visible by the approaching officer. Otherwise, Nobody can carry a loaded weapon in their vehicle. All weapons in a motor vehicle must be secured and weapons and ammo separated. If you carry a snub nose on your right ankle, you need to turn the holster( before starting your engine ) so as to make it visible for the officer at your window, should you be pulled over.

That vehicle carry crap (plain sight) was written out of Ohio law a long time ago.

Now there are zero restrictions on how a CHL transports a loaded handgun in Ohio. You could drive down the street twirling the gun on your finger if that is what you wanted to do.

The whole "Duty to Retreat" thing is gone as well for anyone in a residence or vehicle. In public, the key phrase is "duty to retreat if you can do so safely". If a BG is armed, there is no way to outrun a bullet, hence no duty.

I have been in Texas since 2006. So I'm glad to hear the prisoners have been released. Thank you for your expertise. Since you are the authority on Ohio concealed carry, tell me, where's the reciprocity stand?

We don't have Ohio reciprocity with a Texas CHL. This is why many, myself included, have also procured a Utah CFP or other non-resident out of state permit which gives us reciprocity with additional states, including with Ohio.

The root of the issue is Texas will not recognize an Ohio license. Ohio must have reciprocity agreements in place to be able to recognize another state. Thus they are at an impass.
