Actually the 336 was/is offered in several calibers. The straight stock as this one is was offered in .44 Remington Mag in the middle 1960's. The 336 came in .32 spcl. .219 Zipper, .308 Marlin Express, .338 Marlin Express and of course .44 Mag, 30-30 Win & .35 Rem though all these calibers are discontinued in the 336 except the .35 Rem and 30-30 Win. Remington now manufactures Marlins and the quality of their current output is questionable. The rifle pictured doesn't appear to have the cross bolt safety so it's pre Remington or Remlin Marlin officionados say.

Teachers pet! Wow, I am corrected. Didn't know that. If it had a been a 44 REM MAG it would be mine. Like that sweet 16". Thanks for the correction and extra knowledge.

Didn't mean to be snide. I have learned a lot on this forum and others like it and just wanted to offer the correct info in case there might be someone learning like me. I sold a LOT of Marlins and own several. I kick myself for not buying a 336 straight stock in .44 Mag in the 1960's.

Good reading. I always tried to steer a potential buyer into the .35 Rem but usually they wanted one in 30-30.

...it seems to cut through brush better'n a .30-.30...in the heavier weights...ammo is less likely to be in a country store, though...
