I got my CHL two years before I joined the army in Abilene. Now I am active duty stationed at Ft Hood so still in Texas. Do I need to change my address on my CHL?

My understanding is YES, physical address is what is required.
I checked when I moved from one Kempner address to another. DPS stated I had to update, so I did.

I think its only if your home of record changes(permanant address) not just where you happen to be staying on a temp basis.

Correct - permanent duty station or to your new permanent change of station, temporary duty stations do not matter.

1: Temp Duty (TDY) is a school, deployment for combat or training, testing, or other short tasking. Normally less than 12 months.
2: Home of record= Where you enlisted from initially or if you change it later ( DD Form 2058, State of Legal Residence Certificate ) to where you call your permanent home regardless of where you may be stationed at the time. (Some Military folks do that when they get to a duty station they desire to live in now and after military life)
3: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) = Upon HQ DA orders to move to a new location, a permanent change of duty locations (as if any PCS is really permanent)
Only Number 3 should trigger a required change on the CHL ….or at least that’s what I understand from DPS.

Good luck and thanks for your service! :patriot:

And, a good rule of thumb IMO for military is to make sure your CHL matches your current drivers license address. In other words, follow the rules for your drivers license and permanent address while in the military and match your CHL to that. :thumbs2:
