The article says "We asked for it back" Are you kidding me? How about we take it back or put a crater where it now sits? I can't believe those pansies in Washington.

Sure, we have all of those troops left over from our Iraq pullout we could just reposition them for our new war in Iran - that we are going to start over a remote controlled airplane.

Help me understand why there is no destruct mechanism in place to keep this technology out of other folks hands...

If it loses contact with the mothership and cannot make it home on it's own, it should vaporize itself.

This is not just a remote control airplane. It has stealth technology. Surveillance technology and encryption and communications technology they should not have access to.

I'm pretty sure there is one on these things. The question being did it malfunction? Could be just enough of a charge to take out the electronic guts.

It also think the Iranians did some mocking up of their model. It doesn't even look like it crashed. Any number of things could have happened but the scenario where Iran took control of our drone, landed it safely, and reported it honestly to the media... did not happen.

edited some grammar

If we didn't want them to have it then we shouldn't be flying it in their airspace. Or we should be danm sure we don't get caught and leave behind physical evidence.

We did get caught but they aren't being the best kids to play kickball with lately. The grand poo ba over there is a very dangerous person. I would try and spell his name but I would have to Google it. I think you know who I mean.

Sit back for a moment guys and consider a few things.........

1. the drone was obviously crudely put together, even if it did fly for a bit. I have close up pictures of my own taken at Edwards AFB of one of these things, and they are smooth as a baby's butt and painted the same kind of gray as manned fighters are painted.

2. the drone obviously has computer systems on board to fly, and the Iranians are obviously going to try and tap into those systems to see what's what.

3. has anyone considered that if you wanted to plant a virus that would wipe out Iran's intelligence IT systems, you could put it aboard the computer of one of your junk drones that had crashed during flight test and had been hastily reassembled, and then have a convenient "emergency" which would cause the aircraft to land itself inside of Iran's borders?

4. imagine the havoc created when whatever special really sick killer virus on that aircraft's computers attacks and kills Iran's intelligence IT systems.

I hope that's what happened, but if not, there should be a great big smoking hole where it used to sit in Iran. If anyone was standing around when the bombs (yes, multiple) hit then too bad. Iran has a history of ignoring us when we have a gutless President. Unfortunately, history is repeating itself.

Chas.

As a former military recon guy, I think it's VERY safe to say the full Damage Control Assessment is complete and an action plan was created. Many times the action plan is "do nothing" because it's the data, not the equipment, that is the sensitive part (which was likely wiped). In cases where an "actionable" action plan is taken, you don't always hear about it (trust me on this one :tiphat: ).

One the surface, yes, they're winning the PR war in Iran, but that's an easy win for them. On our side, just remember: Our "news" system is based solely on creating emotional responses and making you crave more "news." The "facts" are the first victims in commercial newscasting.

I can think of quite a few dastardly thing that I could do by losing a drone to an enemy. A computer virus would be the least of them. :thumbs2:

The past is another country, They do things differently there.

Just ask Francis Gary Powers.

So, if the Chinese or the Russians fly a drone over the US and we get our hands on it, we should give it back, right? And if we don't, you're good with them putting a crater wherever we're keeping it?
