Illinois tied New Jersey for the most people moving out.
Heh.

I don't think people are moving out of either state because, or only because of, the states' gun laws; I do believe they are moving out because of the results of the mentality that wants to regulate guns, trans-fats, individual rights and actions, non-union businesses, and anything to the right of Fidel Castro out of existence.

This link http://www.forbes.com/special-report/20 ... ation.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

takes you to an interactive map that shows the migration from and to each county (yes, county) using date from US tax returns. You can pretty quickly get an idea of who is bleeding people, and who is gaining.

ETA Better one, I think: http://www.forbes.com/2010/06/04/migrat ... s-map.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just pray all those people moving from the oppressed zones leave behind the damn fool ideas that drove them out instead of importing them to Texas.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way, look at Austin and Travis county. BTW, Chicago and Cook county are in Illinois, but they are not Illinois.

:thumbs2: If they like "how they do it back home" so much, why don't they go back?

Absolutely!

I was doing a job in south Florida back in the late 80's when, "I {heart} NY" bumper stickers, etc. were in vogue. One of my favorite bumper stickers of all time read something like, "If you {heart} NY, we suggest I95 North"

I left Illinois in 19 and 81. Born n raised in the burbs.

I went back one last time since then, prox. 1983, and haven't been back since (DuPage County).

I was impressed that the DuPage County clerk found some old records from 1976 ish to assist me in the aquisition of my Texas CHL. :tiphat:

I don't miss it; I have no desire to step foot in the state again.

It has nothing to offer to friend or foe.

I feel sorry for any one I know who still lives there and most of them don't.

Hmmm, I didn't realize how much I hate llinois until now.

And I can hear them now "Oh, all these crazy twangy Texans carrying guns, its just SO dangerous. We've got to elect someone who'll get these guns under control". They voted for the politicians where they WERE who made things so bad for them that they picked up and moved HERE...but mark my words, they'll end up asking for the same giant government machine to control everyone the way they had back "home". Despite (or maybe because of) the fine college educations so many of them have, they just can't seem to understand that it all goes hand in hand: the social services, the taxes, the overbearing laws, and then the worsening conditions that follow. :banghead:

...or they didn't BOTHER to vote...and just complained about what was happening...the main difference I see in Texas is folks don't just complain...they DO something about what rubs 'em wrong...and that's how we get such good progress...I can' imagine living anywhere else...folks here not only don't mind gettin' their hands dirty, they don't mind doin' it helpin' someone else!!!

According to the Star-Telegram, this morning, another half million folks have moved to Texas and taken up residence since the 2010 census. At that rate, we'll be at 30 million, or more, by the 2020 census.

The year that I left California, 2006, news outlets at the time were full of stories about how businesses were starting to leave the state in droves because of the draconian taxes and regulations that successive waves of commie democrats had imposed. The commies protested that business owners were not doing their part to make a better world and were being selfish by moving out of state. Atlas Shrugged revisited. The stories became prominent enough that the governator started boasting about how 400,000 people had moved to California in 2005. What he had neglected to mention was that 500,000 people had left the state, for a net loss of 100,000 taxpayers. It was the first time in California's history going back to the founding of the state that there was negative population growth. 2006 wasn't any better—for California—and I wouldn't be surprised if the intervening years have been no better either.

The problem is that a lot of the people who left were just workers who either followed employers whose political beliefs they did not share, or they were forced to leave the state because the jobs picture was so bad there, but they were actually satisfied with California's politics. Those people have brought their goofy ideas with them to wherever they've moved, and they've set about trying to make their new location into California instead of realizing how much better they have it in their new homes.
