Tweeting the word 'drill' could mean your Twitter account is read by U.S. government spies
  • Fake profiles used by Department of Homeland Security, says privacy group
  • List of keywords flags 'danger' signal
  • DHS may attempt to identify users from their accounts
  • Keywords include 'virus', 'drill' and 'illegal immigrant'

The Department of Homeland Security makes fake Twitter and Facebook profiles for the specific purpose of scanning the networks for 'sensitive' words - and tracking people who use them.

Simply using a word or phrase from the DHS's 'watch' list could mean that spies from the government read your posts, investigate your account, and attempt to identify you from it, acccording to an online privacy group.

{snip}......

The DHS outlined plans to scans blogs, Twitter and Facebook for words such as 'illegal immigrant', 'outbreak', 'drill', 'strain', 'virus', 'recovery', 'deaths', 'collapse', 'human to animal' and 'trojan', according to an 'impact asssessment' document filed by the agency.

When its search tools net an account using the phrases, they record personal information.
In response, I just tweeted the following:
Here you go Mr. Gov't Man.... DRILL, VIRUS, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT. How about this one: REVOLUTION?
Obama maybe ≠ Hitler, but he's headed in that direction, through his willing stooges Janet Napolitano and Eric Holder.

The worst part about this is how much money they are spending (that we don't have in the first place) to monitor Twitter and Facebook...I guess that is all part of the jobs that were "created or saved", huh? :banghead:

More of a Mussolini if you ask me, he seems more of a facist authoritarian, rather than a socialist one (ironic ain't it?).

DHS is a "solution", looking for a problem to solve. They will grow bigger and more costly in the mean while. Their roving checks at other than airports is a testimony to the intent of the Washington bureaucrats of the intent to make DHS/TSA as big and unwieldy as the public will tolerate.

(tin foil hat on). When Senator Obama was running for the presidency, he talked about needing his own army. It could be that DHS/TSA is intended to be the answer to that need. I'd admit that they are not fully armed yet. That could be the next step. (tin foil hat off)

Since those on the left love to castigate conservatives, saying that we always give Mr. Bush a pass on everything while attacking their poor, sweet guy in the White House, I'll say this about DHS. I agree with you, we didn't/don't need them. The previous administration overdid it in response to 9/11. What we DID need was better information sharing between Federal and local law enforcement in regards to credible terrorist activity and for local law enforcement agencies (at least state agencies), to get some training if they were lacking in that are, and many probably were...now we have another out-of-control moneypit bureaucracy that will go to any lengths to expand itself and justify its existence...kind of like the EPA, but with firearms...not good, not good at all.

Yeah, well how about this:

Government Total Recall On Past Communications http://www.futurepundit.com/archives/008430.html

and this:

How the feds are tracking your kid http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/op ... &FEEDNAME=

Would it bother you to know that the federal Centers for Disease Control had been shown your daughter’s health records to see how she responded to an STD/teen-pregnancy-prevention program? How about if the federal Department of Education and Department of Labor scrutinized your son’s academic performance to see if he should be “encouraged” to leave high school early to learn a trade? Would you think the government was intruding on your territory as a parent?

Under regulations the Obama Department of Education released this month, these scenarios could become reality. The department has taken a giant step toward creating a de facto national student database that will track students by their personal information from preschool through career. Although current federal law prohibits this, the department decided to ignore Congress and, in effect, rewrite the law. Student privacy and parental authority will suffer.
