Found interesting that on the Wiki link you posted it says that in Ireland there are 25,000 burglaries/yr and of those 15,000, or 60 % occurred when thE victims are at home. Burglars in Ireland don't care if you are at home or not, since they know there is very little you can do to them without getting into serious trouble. I looked at the FBI stats for the US. Although they do not show burglaries when the victims are at home, I used the burglaries of a duelling at night ( 443,717) vrs total duelling burglaries (1,597,717) to compare.
