Wife finally uploaded all the pictures from the trip.. thought I would show y'all my open carry pics. Did I enjoy open carry? Ehh. It was nice to be able to wear a OWB holster without any clothing covering the grip. No one really looked at me funny, even walking around different towns in AZ, the folks didn't even bat an eye. I think that if I were a resident, I would conceal probably 70% of the time, and OC the rest. The convenience would definately be appreciated. Anyway. I actually saw quite a few folks OC'ing around the state, but I was the only one besides the Park Rangers who was open carrying at the Grand Canyon.

Were the other folks OCing out just walking around or were they in and out of various businesses?

Yeah, the other folks were out and about their daily business. .... So nothing really to note there.

My wife asked another man/wife/dog group to take our pic, and we took one for them.

I love the pic and doing OC, but I have to ask about the Grand Canyon, isn't that Federal Property? I am thinking "Grand Canyon National Park" when I ask the question.
So I assume it is legal or you would not have done it, but I still have the federal issue in the back of my mind.

Nice pics! Funny thing is, in all of my trips through Arizona, I have yet to see someone open carrying. I did it myself......once, on my last trip through there in May.....but because nobody else seemed to be doing it, I definitely felt kind of out of place when I did it.

Yessir, I was also concerned about that..... but after doing some research, and utilizing some forums from AZ, I found that the law was ammended to allow OC at Grand Canyon.

The view was... breathtaking however. While you are standing there admiring, it's almost impossible to accept it as reality. Still looks like a big panting when your standing there!

Not only the GC, but all National Parks follow state law regarding firearms possession. If the state allows you to be armed, a National Park in that state also allows you to be armed. Thus, a National Park in AZ, AK, or VT -- which allow unlimited constitutional carry -- would also allow it.

A National Park in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, etc? Forget it.

snatchel, did you venture into any of the exhibits?

I was in AZ and visited the GC, North rim, last summer, I carried concealed everywhere. I saw some "no weapons" and gun buster signs at the exhibit entrances of some places, some I didn't see until we exited out a different door. I thought that the buildings were off limits if carrying from what I read.

I was going to OC while hiking just outside Sedona (where we stayed), but felt really awkward as I never saw one person, other than law enforcement OCing anywhere in the area. Sedona seemed pretty liberal and the many visitors from other states and country's just made me a bit uneasy about it. On the next trip I will OC and see what happens, which should be nothing.

I can't imagine anyone going to those three states that wasn't under duress. Did you intentionally leave out the left coast where our Texas CHL's are also not welcome?

BTW, I would recommend not carrying a CW in any structure where Federal employees may be doing whatever they do - in a NP or elsewhere.

THis was m impression as well. My wife and I packed picnic lunches so we wouldn't have to go into any restaurants at the park. I found a couple of very welcoming, homely trees to take care of my business (as did our pup), and my wife went into the gift shops without me, I just waited outside with the puppy.

I went up to Sedona a few weeks ago, and noticed the Jeep tour guides were all OCing big revolvers, probably more for show than much else. I OCed albeit discretely while hiking, and drew little attention. Wasn't a big deal, although I wouldn't suggest it in the down town areas or in Phoenix and Tuscon.

I bet you weren't worried at all about the guy taking off with your camera.
