Need Suggestion on how to carry while on crutches.

As the title says, I need help in figuring out good methods of carry while on crutches. After my surgery, I'm going to be on crutches for a few weeks. I'm needing some ideas on easily accessible methods of carry. I usually carry IWB or OTW on strong side, but I'm concerned about access and hitting my crutches. Any and all ideas are appreciated.

Thanks. KS

In as much as I hate them, a fanny pack might be your best option. Easy to get to and would stay out of the way of your crutches.

Just thinking out loud (never had to suffer through this, thankfully), I'm thinking crossdraw might work. Either belt carry or better yet a shoulder holster of some kind (easier to reach up high under opposite arm pit while on crutches, I'm thinking).

Perhaps a Kangaroo Carry if you have a smaller gun (.380, snub revolver, subcompact like Glock 26 or Kahr)

But really, what you should be looking for is one of those cool spy guns concealed inside crutches, canes, umbrellas like in James Bond movies :thumbs2:

Under the current circumstances, not a bad idea.

Thanks.

also might consider something like this http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=45" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've actually made one of these myself out of ABS plastic and paracord. Didn't like it for most carry needs (bounces around a bit and doesn't conceal as well as you'd think for a man - might work better for woman?), but it works in a pinch.

I guess I will have to call Red Jacket Firearms and get then to build me something. LOL.

I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

I would suggest a small gun IWB at about 1:00 to 2:00. For a cheap holster look at WRB. Trying to reach back to the 4:00 position while on crutches will be difficult at best...

Your IWB holster should still work - just move it closer to the 1 o'clock area than the 3 o'clock where you are probably carrying now.

Two years ago, I had to spend a good part of the year on crutches, then graduated to a walking cast. I felt really vulnerable, knowing I couldn't maneuver around very well. I relied on a backpack to carry my laptop and other essentials, but found out it is just shy of impossible to draw from a backpack! I tried a belly band during that time too, but moving around on crutches made it ride up, so that wasn't good either. I never tried the fanny pack, but that might be a good alternative.

Good luck to you, and heal quickly!

If you start thinking a smartcarry bellyband type things might be what your looking for, I'd be happy to put mine on loan to you. PM me, and I will see that it gets mailed out ASAP so that it's there when you need it. I have the SmartCarry. If you ask me, it ain't pretty... but it does the job. I can carry G30/G26/SP101 and other pistols no prob. This can be carried in front as advertised, or moved around to strong side, weak side, cross draw.. etc, as you see fit.

I much prefer my hybrid holsters... but I have used this from time to time when wearing athletic apparel and the like.

Cargo pants pocket carry of something like a Kahr PM9 or a snubby .38 in a good pocket holster like the one available from Fist Holsters is a workable solution as well.

I can vouch for this method from crutch experience of my own

Do they make that with an aluminum crutch, I just don't trust the wooden crutches. I'm afraid they would not handle the recoil very well. LOL.
