Since we have a lot of transplants on the forum, I though this would be interesting to see as a poll. What do you generically call your soft drink?

My parents and grand parents call it pop (Kansas) but I grew up calling it soda in Texas/New Mexico. Guess I'm the odd man out.

When I was a kid, I reckon I called it "coke". Now, I call it what it is.

Why would you call Diet Dr. Pepper anything but that? Sometimes, generics are just wrong! :clapping:

I am a Yankee by birth (Western NY - no where near the city!) and it was POP.
The preferred soft drink was Pepsi.
When I saw the light, and came to Texas in 1995, I quickly learned it was SODA or COKE, but being that I do a lot of Dr Pepper, I couldn't call it a COKE, and will either order exactly a Dr Pepper (without a . of course!) or a SODA

Now we know where our education dollars are going....

BTW, its coke - no matter whether drinking DP, 7-up, or RC, it's still a coke.

My wife is from Indiana, I'm from...well, a military brat that's spent most of his adult life in Texas, so I reckon I'm Texas.

Me: Soda
Her: Pop

but worse...
Me: Vacuuming
Her: Sweeping (yes, even when using a vac!)

I call my coke a Creme Soda
Or ... perhaps I call my Creme Soda a coke .... either way,

My niece drinks up all my cokes with the big 7 followed by a red ball and U P after (7up description from a blooper)
One I recall hearing only from one person, I forget where ... was "COdrink"
After asking and him repeating several times I figured out he mean "cold drink"

It's all Coke!
Me "What do you wanna drink?"
Wife "A Coke."
Me "What kind?"
Wife "Diet Rite"
Me "Honey, you don't need to drink diet."
Wife "Oh Sugar, you are so sweet. You should go buy that new gun you've been talking about."

I grew up in the heart of "Liberalland." My first job at 14 (1956) was as a "Soda Jerk." Worked at a "Lunchenette" soda fountain, so Soda was the only name for a soft drink. We served Sodas, Malts, and Egg Cremes. Cherry Coke was the most popular soft drink. When I was stationed in Colorado at age 21, I ordered a burger with no mustard or mayonnaise. I was asked, "so, you want it DRY?" I replied, "No, I'd like it nice and juicy." I was then asked, "What kind of coke with that?" I replied, "No Coke." She replied, OK, nothing to drink then? :headscratch

Yeah, that is the found a lot in the green areas in North Carolina and southern Virginia I think. At least that's where I have heard it.
