This is something I use at work to track crimes adjacent to the University. Thought everyone might like to know whats going on around them.

I use this for my city, but not all cities provide data. Several of the cities around us do not, so it doesn't paint a real picture of crime in the area.

Still, nice to know what has happened around the neighborhood lately.

http://Spotcrime.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is the site I use. It gives me data on the crimes within 3 miles of my house.

I think they are the same as crimereports and the city has to provide the data. Seems to have the same cities in both.

I always knew the crime was higher in my area then most thought but when a family member told me to check that site out I was shocked! I guess it comes with living in the populated suburbs. The only reason I talked about it with a family member is that I had one of those incidents at the front door with an unsavory character that seems to becoming quite a common posting of the forum. After checking the site I talked to a local LEO who patrols and he said that my area has doubled in domestic disturbances and burglaries (both home and car) within the last 2 years. There was a lot of fights listed and sadly a young women was raped in her home not 4 blocks from my house less then a month ago, there was an attempted break in on my block a month ago and a home invasion two months ago two blocks away but I think it was drug related!

The crazy thing is that I live in a middle class area. It's not the slums but I thought it was interesting that some of the bigger houses in the area had more burglaries then my "average" house if you want to call it that but I think this is common regardless of the economy. Ever since the economy went down homes went vacant and crime went up, go figure.

Great sight, thank you. :clapping:

I put my address in and was fairly suprised when nothing showed up at first. I live in a pretty nice area but it certainly isn't crime free so I increased the date range and still nothing. I scrolled over a few blocks so that it showed past the city limit and this confirmed why. Obviously my city doesn't provide info. The one next to it does and I have to admit that I am a little suprised. I am not naive and don't walk around with blinders on but there were a LOT of entries.

I also think this site could be very usefull for another reason. It may motivate the wife to spend more time at the range and cause her to be more agreable when I "need" another gun. :cheers2:

Jeez, I can't keep buying bigger guns, I carry a 40 and have a 1911. Well, at least this didn't scare me as bad as the sex offender registry info did. That led to our getting our German shepard . Is there no place even remotely safe anymore?

Thanks for the link....very informative. As others have said, I wasn't really shocked by the crimes as much as how many sex offenders live around me.
