Hey everyone!
My plastic should be here any day now and looking to add another gun to the safe. I am pretty set on a Glock .40 but don't know if I should go with the G23 or G27. I currently own a G17 (full size) and absolutely love it! I want a .40 since I don't currently own one and want this to be my primary carry weapon. I've don't have a lot of experience shooting a sub compact and don't know if its worth going down to a sub compact for the concealability. I have practice carrying my 17 and get a little bit of printing, just trying to get some feedback on what others think about a compact vs sub compact? I'm all ears!

Well you've picked a great pair of prospective guns. I'd grab a "slide holster" from comp-tac or somewhere similar so you can carry both in the same holster. If you went with a G26 or G19 you'd have mag interchangeability with the 17. (I don't want to spark a caliber war on your thread, I'm sure there's plenty of 29-page locked ones if you go back a few pages. )

If you are looking at a 27 to get rid of the printing you might want to hold on. I think we all obsess about the printing the first week but it subsides, you can never eliminate all printing, and you are likely the only one who notices it. (There's a limit to printing just have to find the right balance). I shoot well with the sub's and conpacts alike.

Get the 27. I carry the 26 and I'm more accurate with it than I was with the 23 I use to own.

Hey gremlinschl good to see you on the forum. Im wonderinmg if your license came in yet. It all depends on which way you want to carry. In my opinion glocks are just way to bulky if you are going to pocket carry As you seem inclined to IWB or SOB carry I am thinking your full size glock in a good holster that doesnt flop around to much and holds it tight to the body would do..40 caliber is a great caliber, but since its a snappier cartridge I would want a compact with a full grip. It just seems that the small grip on the subcompact glock would cause alot of muzzle flip,but thats just my guess I could be wrong. A new gun is always good Make sure to give Brian a call to see what deal he can get you on the Glock that you pick.

A firm grip, not a death grip, will keep things under control. I never found my G27 any more difficult to shoot than the G22 I used to have.

Get a 1911. Compact/Sub.. doesn't matter.

I am leaning towards the G27 in a IWB holster. It is a bit to bulky for a pocket holster. But I do like the compact size of it.

Have the 27 as well and have had it for about 5 years. Gun has never once jammed in over 10,000 rounds. Great gun, it is a little snappy at first but you will get used to it and it will be no different then shooting any other gun. I said the same thing when I first got my Glock 20 back in 09. I thought I would never be able to handle it but you train. Practice makes perfect. My brother is always amazed how my 27 is just as accurate as his 17. Of course the 17 has a lot less recoil but both are extremely accurate within 15 yards.

On a side note after owning .40, 9mm, .45, 10mm etc. I really don't think the so called "stopping power" (we all know the myth) of a .40 S&W is that much greater then a 9mm+P so either one will do just fine IMO. 26 or 27. Just remember the 9mm is definitely cheaper in ammo cost!

Edit: 11 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P is nothing to sneeze at!

As for which one 23 or 27. Go with the 27. The 27 is considerably smaller in the grip and makes it even easier to conceal. Also, I really don't see the need for pearce grip extensions. I got them at first but it in no way affects my accuracy with or without. I have medium hands with long skinny fingers and can still easily control the weapon and one handed also if need be. The only people who really need the pearce grips are guys with those fat sausage fingers (sorry if I called someone out)

The only other benifit to getting a 26 is that your 17 mags will work and you can carry one mag in the gun and one 17 mag on you or a 33 round mag if you really feel the need.

Edit: My brother has the 33 round mag and it even looks ridiculous in his 17. He says he has it for when a platoon size group of ninjas attack him. Hey, it could happen!

I think its worth renting one at a range before you buy. Even better is borrowing one from a friend!

I have both and carry both in the same IWB crossbreed supertuck. To be honest about it all, I can barely tell the difference in the way they feel when carried. Two differences that i have noticed and so far neither is a big deal. The longer barrel is more noticeable to me when I sit down. The slightly longer grip sometimes catches my shirt a bit. The shirt thing is not really a problem as I have a habit of reaching to my side on occasion(especially when sitting down or standing up)and fluffing my shirt out so it isn't clinging to the gun.

try the pierce plus one grip extenders. they are great for giving just enough room for your pinky on the G27 but this will make the grip almost as long as the compact Glock.
