L-1 Identity Solutions is no more. They have been acquired by a French company - SAFRAN, and renamed MorphoTrust, USA. SAFRAN also makes the scanners used by TSA. This has been in the works for awhile, but the name change just happened this week.

So now getting a Texas CHL requires you to submit your fingerprints to a foreign entity?

So, lets think about this.......
French owned company now processing fingerprints for Texas CHL (and possibly other States as well).

What's to stop them from archiving these prints/information and releasing it to the UN when requested?

How about somebody lobby DPS and get them to rethink their fingerprint requirements/procedures?

Would it be too much trouble for the DPS Troopers at every DPS Office location handle fingerprinting for CHL? Or, if nothing can be worked out along those lines, let the CHL Instructors go back to providing fingerprints as they did before.........I'm pretty sure there were not as many rejections as it would have appeared to warrant the change to L1 in the first place.

Lucky mine are no longer needed for renewals and they were NEVER done by L1.

OK, IMO no need to start a bunch of conspiracy theories. You would be surprised how many US companies are actually owned by a foreign entity. I don't like it from an economic standpoint, but from a security standpoint I think it's silly to think they will be compromising my information because of having my fingerprints.

Well, personally I never liked it when I first heard about it and I am thankful I never had to use it (JMO).

Keiths right. We should be far more concerned about 4473s being kept illegally by the ATF when it comes to gun rights.

At this point, I've bought enough that if there is a list, I'm on it. If that's ever an issue I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

Was at L-1 this afternoon. The girl working there knew nothing about it!!! She said that she had noticed that the site she logs into to do her daily reports had "looked different" for the last few days.

I don't think it's a conspiracy issue either. However, I do think it's another way for your personal info to be abused either by
incompetence, theft or mismanagement. Just like the internet, once it's out there, there's no taking it back!
Our laws (lawmakers) regarding privacy are not able to keep up with technology. Thus a major part of the ID theft problem today.

One of my students was overcharged for his fingerprint appointment and just received an email with this message from MorphoTrust (formerly L-1):

Thank you for your recent appointment with MorphoTrust USA (formally L-1 Identity Solutions).
During the period between 11pm on February 13th and 2pm on February 15th, we experienced an internal technical issue that impacted our TX ePay (electronic payment) customers. The issue was quickly identified and corrected.
You are receiving this communication as our records indicate that when scheduling your fingerprinting appointment during this time, you were charged twice the actual amount due. Please note that the Texas Department of Public Safety is aware of the issue and is working with MorphoTrust to quickly process refunds for all affected customers. By receipt of this letter, you are assured that your credit card will be refunded the amount due within the next 14 days.

Conspiracy theories aside........If they can't keep their money straight how can we expect them to keep our fingerprints and personal info secure?

Agreed!
But I didn't mean that towards the Country of France but towards the Company that took over L-1.
