Packet Mailed to Applicant.....

I have been checking the status of my application every couple days. It still says that PACKET MAILED TO APPLICANT. I sent it with delivery confirmation so I know that they have my packet.

How long does it take for them to update the status? I know it takes about 60 days to get - but I was just curious as to how accurate the current status is?

Thanks!

CHL Application Error Question?

Also, if there is a error or mistake in your paper - do they put you back at the "end of the line" or do they just take the correction and you get your CHL just a little bit later?

Just curious.....I double checked and triple checked my application. Thanks!

Hemi - welcome to the forum!

DPS is not too swift on updating the website. Try not to get too paranoid about the application. Many people have received the license in the mail while the website still said "processing application".

It will come...eventually.

Good and bad I guess.....

Good to know that they are working on it.

Bad cause I now have to find something else to do other than checking the website every 30 minutes.

Thanks for the reply!!!!

I'm one of those people that received my plastic in the mail when the website said they were still processing my application.

DPS never figured out how to get me logged into the Website. :???: Correct info, PIN, everything. Always the "you are not eligible for this service" bit. Couple of emails to no avail, so I was simply patient. Almost 90 days, and that with absolutely nothing on my record, ever, except a speeding ticket a decade ago that was handled with a defensive driving course. I really don't think there's a rhyme or reason to the timing...

On my latest renewal, the website said "Packet mailed to applicant" for about 35 or 40 days. I finally called just to verify they were working on it and was told "yes," but they were a little behind updating the website. I had the CHL in hand about 10 days later.

I'm not big on checking the website, it just doesn't give much information. The only reason I see for checking is to verify they are working on it and you don't know that if it still says "Packet mail to Applicant." It could have been lost in the system, or in the mail if you didn’t send it Certified Return Receipt Requested, or some other way you can verify the date received.

Good point, Charles. You'd think if they could improve the accuracy, timeliness, and the granularity (meaning more precise gradations of status information), DPS could save a whole bunch of technician-on-telephone time from folks calling to ask about their applications. If UPS and FedEx can do it with thousands of packages a day, traveling all over the nation, with updates literally within minutes, you'd think a little better efficiency for the DPS here would save them a lot of worker time and budget money, and improve the CHL experience for the applicants.

Barcoding readers and software are pretty cheap, after all. And unlike UPS, they don't need to-the-minute updates transmitted wirelessly from trucks in the field. Ya barcode the applications, and ya barcode 15 or 20 differerent statuses. The status changes on an application, the DPS worker scans the app barcode, then scans the appropriate new status; 20 seconds. Simple. And wouldn't it be nice to go onto the Website and see something like:

Application Received and Logged: 1/15/2007 09:36
Application Completeness Confirmed: 1/17/2007 14:23
DPS Background Check Initiated: 1/22/2007 11:14
Application Information Forwarded to Director's Designee: 2/12/2007 08:46

Well, you get the idea. I can dream, can't I? ;-)
