Seriously, if it wasn't for Chicago and Cook County, Illinois wouldn't be much different than any other yankee state.

I'm sure it's effective, right up until you run into a rapist who enjoys that sort of thing (they're out there).

I've also seen recommendations to "soil yourself" as well. Pretty much anything but carry an evil gun, right?

It is, but Cook County and Chicago politicians have a heavy hand in politics in the state and that flows over to the ISP in the state capitol of Springfield.

Oh, I know. I have family up there and they welcome me bringing any of my guns to shoot out on the farm at milk jugs or whatever. They are just outside of Springfield. The whole town and police are so completely different from Chicago.

I have also heard this same "advice" being given to women.

They don't want a woman shooting the scion of a wealthy, politically-connected family by mistake.

That is one of the dumbest things I have read in awhile. The State is probably teaching kids this in school and whoever came up with those tips ought to be ashamed of themselves. They should have said "if you are attacked, try not to make your attacker mad and pray for mercy" because when the elected officials made the decision to take away their citizen's ability to defend themselves against violent criminals, that is the only option the victim is left with. "Fish around in your purse for a nail file" or "try and puke" is insulting.

Considering that up to 1/3 of the general population have no gag reflex, and some of those are likely to be rape victims, I wish there was a comments area.
