I took my son to bass pro shop and ended up getting him a22. First time to use my CHL when purchasing a gun. After much small talk while doing the paperwork, the guy asked if I was carrying now. Kind of caught me off guard but since I was I said yes. The guy was really nice and I didn't want to be rude and say none of your business even though it's not. Just wondering if you have been asked and do you tell the truth or how do you answer.

Never been asked by anyone other than a cop.

You probably could, but you would be convicted anyway.

Years ago I was in court for an elapsed registration [on a car that I had sold]. While I was waiting to hear my case, there was a "little old lady" who had been ticketed for going through a stop sign.

The judge asked her for a plea. She asked the judge if she could say something before entering her plea. The judge said that she could. She told the judge "I went through the stop sign, but I didn't mean it." The judge asked her how long she had been driving. She replied that she had been driving for over 40 years. He asked if she had ever had a ticket. She stated that she had never gotten a ticket.
The judge dismissed the charge "in the interest of justice."

i like basspro shop but the lady at the door gave me a hard time over a snapcap in my rifle when i brought it in.last time i will ever do that.

Weird that Bass Pro Shops come up in this type context quite a bit. I wonder what the deal is with them? I was only ask that question one time in public and it was by a feller I ran into at a store who was wanting to get his CHL and we were talking about how to do it. I said yes and that was that. I am not sure how I would respond if asked in a challenging manner. If asked as part of a friendly conversation, I would most likely say yes.

Your standard response should always be "Concealed means concealed" unless you know and trust the person. The clerk should have known better than to even ask. That was pretty bush league of him to catch you off guard. Someone with less than noble motives could use it against you since you're the only one who is supposed to know if you're carrying or not.

Plea insanity on a traffic ticket is not a good idea. There is a ??? on
the Chl Application asking if you have ever plea insanity to a charge.
A traffic ticket is a criminal charge. This could cost you your gun
rights and your CHL both for being insane

Yeah, I'm afraid my answer in this situation would be something like, "You should know better then to ask someone about their underwear like that."

According to the doctors on M.A.S.H. anyone who claimed to be insane couldn't really be insane because only a sane person can define insanity. At least it didn't work for Klinger.

The person asking was probably curious and perhaps intrigued by the idea about the idea of people concealed carrying. I think it was mostly innocent and harmless. I suppose that the worst case outcome of something like this would be to be asked to leave. I personally keep my CHL tucked away and am unlikely to use it as an ID. but if a discussion comes up about concealed carry, it may be an opportunity to explain CHL and the how and why of it all. A lot depends on the environment and context. I would not admit to conceal carry in the workplace for instance. Nor at any social gathering. To someone behind a gun counter? maybe.
