Recently in Seguin there have been four Ford F-250 large cab pick-ups stolen, all for the apparent purpose of smuggling illegal aliens. The first was stolen on 26 Jan, and the most recent one this past weekend. All four have been recovered, but not before "modifications" had been made or started to be made to make more room for "cargo." Back seats were removed, consoles ripped out.

The first three were stolen in daylight hours, from a Walmat, a Home Depot, and a daycare (the truck owner saw it being driven away in that one). Don't know what time of day the last one was stolen. Recoveries were in Frio and DeWitt Counties, Carrizo Springs, and the latest right outside Seguin in a muddy field; the driver detained in this one. The back seats were still there, but the mounts had been loosened.

The cops are quoted as saying the F-250s are very popular for smuggling purposes, I have nothing to worry about since my Ford four door pick up is a 350, not a 250.

I did get stopped in Beeville one night a couple years ago because the officer suspected I might be a smuggler. I had too much firefigher gear in the back seat to have any room for illegals.

When I first asked the officer why he stopped me, he said, "Your window tint might be too dark." My immediate thought was "LIAR!" but I was too polite to tell him so. He took my DL and CHL, screwed up his face like something didn't add up, then asked me to wait a minute. He looked at my license plate and made a radio call.

Then he came back and apologized, said he had been suspicious because I was driving a smuggler's favorite vehicle type late at night slowly down the street. (I had just finished an 0800-2100 day of firefighter training, was tired and unfamiliar with Beeville, so I was driving very carefully so i wouldn't break a traffic law and get pulled over. Actually I guess that worked, because i was already in my motel parking lot before he decided to make a stop.) He had called in my license plate number, but had made a mistake on one digit so the registration that came back did not match the truck. He was sure then he had a smuggler, or some kind of ne'er-do-well.

He apologized again, I said no problem, and we went our merry ways.

They have to get more Obama voters into America somehow.

Sounds like I need some window tint before I list my F350 Crew Cab on Craigslist
