Anyone have a recommendation on a scope? I'm looking for a decent scope for around $100. Not looking for top of the line, just decent quality.

Going to be putting it on my 308 AR so it must be able to stand up to extreme shock. Just looking to do target shooting from 50-200 yards, maybe some hunting eventually. Must have fine crosshairs, elevation marks would be a plus. 1/8" at 100 yard adjustments would be nice as well.

Also any links to where to find these scopes for a good price would be nice.

I picked up a scope from a local scope shop. He spec's them out and has them built, I've been told they look exactly like a Nikon Tactical series scope. I paid about $275, but it looks just the same as my Leupold when you're looking through the cross-hairs.

Thanks for the links. I'd definately get the leupold from you but I don't have that much cash right now after buying the rifle. Just looking for something cheap and decent for now til I get the cash for a quality scope. That won't be for about a month or so.

You might check Bass Pro Or Cabella. I picked up a 3-9 40 mm Leupold Rifleman for 179.00 in Sept. at Cabellas and have bought them for 199 .00 at Acadamy.

They are nice scopes in any weather condition. Mine handled the snow in Colorado fine.

You can have cheap, or you can have sturdy. Pick one.

Seriously, unless you luck into something on the used market, $100 is a pretty low price point for a good centerfire riflescope.

With your budget constraints, I suggest you save your money for a bit longer and then take a look at entry-level Leupold 'scopes - their VX-1 and "Rifleman" series 'scopes can be had at less than $200.

Other brands I'd consider are Weaver, Redfield, Burris and Bushnell . . . be aware that there are usually different levels of performance within each manufacturer's product lines.

Also what kind of scope rings will I need for the flat top rail? I have a fixed A2 front sight so I take it they will have to be pretty high?

I have a Tasco 3x9x40 on my M14 and it has worked very well for me
but I had to put thread lock on all the screws to keep them from coming
loose. I bought it at auctionarms.com for 30.00 dollars a few years ago.

In that price range, I'd be looking for a used Weaver. Sometimes one can be found thats still clear and they're stout enough for most anything.

Fixed power K4s can be found all day long for around a hundred bucks. I saw a couple of them today at the Texarkana gun show, and at least one K2.5; all were marked in the hundred buck range.

Variable power introduces a whole new level of complexity. If you want rugged and cheap, then fixed power is the only way to go.

I saw academy had a Leupold Rifleman 3-9 for $199. Just remembered I still have a $100 gift card. Going by there in the morning to see what they have.

Ended up going with a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40mm. Was going to get the Leupold Rifleman 3-9, but it only had 1/2MOA adjustments and the Nikon had 1/4MOA adjustments. Hope I made the right choice.
