Texas Teacher, do I need to be re-fingerprinted?

I am an educator in the State of Texas, and, therefore, my fingerprints are already on file.
When I apply for a CHL, will I still need to be fingerprinted, or does my previously submitted set count?

I'm quite sure you'll need a new set taken through the current way they do it..

Bah! O well. I got it done for free the first time, I was just hoping I could be lazy/cheap and avoid having to be reprinted.
Thanks!

A few years ago all educators who were not in the FASTPASS system HAD to be integrated. Even the teachers who have been teaching for years had to go into the FASTPASS database and of course all new educators must be in FASTPASS. The short answer is yes you have to do it. It is one of the requirements when getting a CHL. Even though when they go to enter your fingerprints in the system they will see it is already there. Basically it is harder for them to look it up before hand so they just require it regardless and make it mandatory.
EDIT: At least that is what they told me when I called the CHL office in Austin back in JAN. of 08. You can call them and ask if they have changed the policy but I pretty much got the idea that it is MANDATORY and one of the things on the checklist. If you don't have them they won't even take a second look and stop the process and send your application back as incomplete. Check maybe they changed the policy!

I believe that all initial CHL applicants have to be printed through the L1 Enrollment or FAST electronic system but I think this is due in large part for the money, at 10 dollars per person it adds up. IMHO.

Yeah Brian I believe this to be true. L-1 solutions does the fingerprinting, FASTPASS is the form. I had my fingerprints digitally added to the system in 07 as an educator at the same L-1 solutions location that I had my fingerprints for CHL done in 08 by the same women. I asked her the same question even though I already asked Austin and they said it is a requirement on your CHL and that is all they knew.
Here is a link if anyone wants it

I feel your "pain". I had to be fingerprinted for my nursing license, then my school employment, then my CHL! EVERY brother has my prints, not just the big one!

WOW! Divided hope you don't have to get it again! At that point they should give you a discount.

At least it isn't as bad as all the teaching certifications. What a scam! At least I passed all 5 of my certifications the first time and didn't have to pay more then $120.00 for each cert. I know some that had to take them 6 times to pass just one cert.!!
EDIT: Oh wait I forgot about that $77.00 dollar fee to add them to the database every time you get a new one. Once again, what a scam!

oh, and don't forget--if you apply for the CHL instructors course, you will have to do it again(even tho it was less than 2 months apart!!) The state has gotten my prints so many times!! RN license,etc---and with my husbands business-used car dealers license-financing license and more. On several occasions a friend of ours who was LEO would just show up at my office and say that they needed them again!

They told us in the CHL Instructors class that it's an FBI requirement. The FBI requires a new set of prints for each new purpose that a background check is being done. Teacher certification = 1 purpose, CHL = another, so FBI requires new fingerprints. They can reuse your CHL fingerprints for your renewal because they were originally taken for the purpose of obtaining a CHL.

come to think of it , that's what I was told when I asked why I had to get mine redone since FBI had mine from my Private investigator license. I had forgotten, been a long time, but yes that's what they told me too.

I just wish I could get a job in one of the few ISD's that allow teachers to conceal carry. Unfortunatly the 2 school districts that I know allow it are far from DFW.

2 districts now! Last I checked there was only one but I guess that is an improvement. Honestly is there a state where school teachers can carry concealed? Maybe something like Utah, Alaska etc? They have a far better chance of getting campus carry passed in Texas then in a k-12 school. I don't see that happening anytime soon and if they did most school districts would put a clause in your contract that says "grounds for termination etc etc" like many have already done even in the parking lots.
Edit: FYI. Did a quick check and the only state that I could find that allows k-12 carry was Utah.

I tried that my first time since Big Brother already had them from when I was in The Navy, but no. Do them again. Now, with my renewal class is coming up next week I'll be curious if I have to redo them with the new L1 system. Having done all the online stuff so far I haven't been told if I do or don't yet. They might even still keep the same picture, although my DL and CHL photos are different.

Years ago I would visit correctional facilities across the US as part of my job. Most states I went to either didnt' require a set of prints, or required one set for all the facilities in the state. Not Texas. This was long before L-1, and they required a new 10 card for every facility I went to. I'm sure I've got 10 cards from one end of Texas to the other. Every time we signed up another agency, I'd have to submit another set, or I couldn't go to that facility. There were states that I didn't have to have any prints ran, and they'd toss me the keys to a cruiser when I got there. Man I love those interceptors.
